Book Synopsis Transfer of Pollution Prevention Technologies by : National Research Council
Download or read book Transfer of Pollution Prevention Technologies written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2002-04-01 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The activities of the Department of Defense (DOD) and its contractors in manufacturing, testing, maintaining, and disposing of military equipment make up a significant portion of the industrial processes conducted in the United States. As is the case with the commercial industries, some of these activities, such as metal plating, have resulted in industrial pollution and environmental contamination. With increasing environmental regulation of such processes in recent decades, defense facilities have been faced with growing compliance issues. Department of Defense efforts to manage, correct, and prevent these problems have included the establishment of the National Defense Center for Environmental Excellence (NDCEE) under the management of the U.S. Army Industrial Ecology Center (IEC). The National Research Council's Committee to Evaluate Transfer of Pollution Prevention Technology for the U.S. Army was formed to identify major barriers to the transfer of pollution prevention technologies and to recommend pathways to success. To address the study objectives, the committee (1) reviewed the NDCEE's technology transfer activities, (2) examined efforts to transfer technology in four areas, two of which were identified at the outset by the NDCEE as successful and two of which were identified as unsuccessful, and (3) identified opportunities for improving the transfer of pollution prevention technologies to maintenance and rework facilities in the Department of Defense and to industrial manufacturing facilities performing defense-related operations.

Book Synopsis Regulating Enterprise by : David Milman
Download or read book Regulating Enterprise written by David Milman and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 1999-07-01 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains a series of studies of the regulation under English law of the range of business organisational structures available to entrepreneurs. It analyses the commonest of these structures, including limited companies (public and private), groups of companies, privatised enterprises, and partnerships, as well as the more specialised forms such as industrial and provident societies, banks, building societies, insurance companies, joint ventures, franchise agreements, limited partnerships and overseas companies. Set within the context of a period of considerable actual and proposed legal change, the contributions (from recognised authorities in their respective fields) analyse the broad regulatory structure adopted for each of the above business forms, outline the changing patterns of regulation and consider likely future developments. Several broad themes run through the work, including the relationship between the economic desirability of facilitating enterprise and the need to regulate against possible abuse; stakeholder protection; pursuit of risk management strategies and the implications of European harmonisation in the business sector.

Book excerpt: This edited collection sheds light on Nordic families’ strategies and methods for transferring significant cultural heritage to the next generation over centuries. Contributors explore why certain values, attitudes, knowledge, and patterns were selected while others were left behind, and show how these decisions served and secured families’ well-being and values. Covering a time span ranging from the early modern era to the end of the twentieth century, the book combines the innovative "history from below" approach with a broad variety of families and new kinds of source material to open up new perspectives on the history of education and upbringing.
