This book was released on 2016-08-09 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Review of Our Present Knowledge of the Molluscan Fauna of Michigan According to W. G. Binney, the leading authority on North American land shells, all that part of the continent east of the Rocky Mountains and north of Mexico, forms a single zoological province known as the Eastern Province. This again is divided into three regions; Northern, Interior, and Southern. The Northern Region comprises British Am erica and that part of the United States lying east of the Appal achian chain of mountains, while the Interior Region extends from the north region south to thealluvial lands lying along the Gulf of Mexico, Roughly speaking, the dividing line between the Northern and Interior Regions west of the Ap palachian chain is the political boundry between Canada and the United States. But practically there is no hard and fast dividing line, and one region gradually merges into the other. In the region of the Great Lakes, however, it would seem probable that the limits are more sharply defined. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Terrestrial Air-Breathing Mollusks of the United States, Vol. 4 The following pages are devoted to a continuation of the work of my father on the Terrestrial Mollusks of the United States. They are believed to contain all the latest information regarding the several species, their varieties, synonymy, geographical distribution, &c. I have also added many references to authors not quoted in the M01 lusks, as well as to those whose works have appeared more recently. Descriptions of all the newly discovered species are added, and figures given of all to which I have been able to obtain access. Since no species was described 'in the Mollusks, with which the author or the able editor was not personally acquainted, there were quite a number of doubtful species entirely omitted in that work. These I have added, with all the information in regard to them which I have been able to obtain. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Terrestrial Air-Breathing Mollusks, Vol. 5: Of the United States, and the Adjacent Territories of North America This work (Bulletin No. 28) is the thirty-eighth of a series of papers intended to illustrate the collections of natural history and ethnology belonging to the United States, and constituting the National Museum, of which the Smithsonian Institution was placed in charge by the act of Congress of August 10, 1840. It has been prepared at the request of the Institution, and printed by authority of the honorable Secretary of the Interior. The publications of the National Museum consist of two series - the Bulletins, of which this is No. 28, in continuous series, and the Proceedings, of which the seventh volume is now in press. The volumes of Proceedings are printed, signature by signature, each issue having its own date, and a small edition of each signature is distributed to libraries promptly after its publication. From time to time the publications of the Museum which have been issued separately are combined together, and issued as volumes of the Miscellaneous Collections. These are struck off from the stereotype plates from which the first edition was printed, and in this form are distributed by the Smithsonian Institution to libraries and scientific societies throughout the world. Volume 13 of these collections includes Bulletins 1 to 10 inclusive; volume 19, volumes 1 and 2 of the Proceedings; volume 22, volumes 3 and 4 of the Proceedings; and volume 23, Bulletins 11 to 15 inclusive. Full lists of the publications of the Museum may be found in the current catalogues of the publications of the Smithsonian Institution.
