Why would you even WANT TO? Here's an interesting fact: according to some people you can literally tell if people know their catechism (including the Ten Commandments of course) by the WAY THEY CARRY THEMSELVES? Had you ever heard that? Some swear that's true and, frankly I wouldn't be surprised. When Martin Luther wanted his to answer the question "What does God require of us?" He could think of no better answer than "The Ten Commandments"! For Luther they proclaimed the inviolable way of God and our total need for God's grace because none of us can obey them perfectly. That's a pretty good formula for carrying oneself well isn't it? You know the right thing to do, you seek to do it, and then you humbly seek God's grace for the times you can't do it! This type of approach keeps you focused yet humble. Of course we all know how RARE that is! So I started wondering why that might be, even in the church? In my pastoral ministry I've found that while many people can remember the Lord's Prayer (if only because they learned it when playing football in school - no joke), and some can remember the Apostle's Creed, getting the Ten Commandments right and in order. And if you can't REMEMBER THEM... you're not going to MEDITATE ON THEM or USE THEM TO GUIDE YOUR PRAYER or USE THEM TO PROMPT CONFESSION, let alone consciously LIVE BY THEM! The question of course is what can be done about that? That's when I decided to try to MAKE MEDIDTATION ON THE TEN COMMADMENTS FUN.... simple little GAMES that help adults or kids jump start their ability to master the Ten Commandments in Luther's Small Catechism. I've found that if learning (especially for adults) isn't FUN, it's probably not going to happen unless some merciless task master is standing over people. But when that happens, they won't come back a second time! These games and activities let you engage the ten commandments in a way that that's interesting. It's not like a boring classroom. It's like an adventure... something fun to master! Kids (and adults) need a break from the lecture. This kind of break lets them review, learn the material from different perspectives, and keep immersing themselves in the study of the ten commandments while making it a "game". Listen our goal is to have students take the ten commandmetns with them ... to inspire their prayers, to equip them in times of struggle, to be the kind of biblical summary that the Holy Spirit uses in their lives to live faithfully in the world around them. If we believe the commandments as part of catechism give our students an advantage over people who never learn them, we owe it to ourselves and our students to do everything possible to help them make it their own! The tool to help you do that is: The Ten Commandments from Martin Luther's Small Catechism: Word Search & Activity Book! In it you'll find a series of WORD SEARCHES, WORD SCRAMBLES, CRYPTOGRAMS, DOUBLE PUZZLES, & MISSING VOWELS. You'll get The Ten Commmandments according to Lutheran usage. The Ten Commandments in multiple game formats so that you can review the commandments in a variety of formats... the key to mastery. Usable with any English version of Martin Luther's Small Catechism. READY TO IMPROVE YOUR mastery of the TEN COMMANDMENTS? Let's get started! Page after page of tools for mastering the Ten Commandments! You'll have hours of fun while profitably internalizing the God's Commands! Order now!T

Book Synopsis The Small Catechism,1529 by : Timothy J. Wengert
Download or read book The Small Catechism,1529 written by Timothy J. Wengert and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 2017-07-17 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Timothy J. Wengert provides detailed background into the development of Luther's popular Small Catechism, which began with Luther's early sermon series on the Ten Commandments, the Lord's Prayer, and the Apostles' Creed. Luther wrote his catechism because many requested he do so but also as a response to his 1528 visitation of parishes in Saxony and Meissen, where he discovered an abysmal level of Christian instruction. Luther's Small Catechism explains the basics of Christian faith in a way resonant with his understanding of justification by faith, which also implied, for Luther, the proper distinction between law and gospel. This is applied to his explanations of the parts of the Catechism. Wengert's translation also includes Luther's own preface to the 1531 edition, the Sacrament of Baptism, Sacrament of the Altar, instructions to the head of the household, Household Chart of Bible Passages, Marriage Booklet for Pastors, and Baptismal Booklet. This volume is excerpted from The Annotated Luther series, volume 4 (Pastoral Writings). Each volume and selection in the series contains new introductions, extensive annotations, illustrations, and notes to help shed light on Luther's context and to interpret his writings for today.
Download or read book By Heart written by R. Guy Erwin and published by Augsburg Fortress Publishing. This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Martin Luther had a way with words and an eye toward instruction as he wrote the Small Catechism. Written to awaken and affirm faith as well as provide a helpful tool for households and congregations, the Small Catechism delivers the precise and profound words that have become the heart of Lutheran teaching about the Christian faith. As you will see in the story of the Small Catechism, Luther saw firsthand how far removed the gospel was from the people's experience. So, he set about crafting a simple Q & A on the basics of God's word, aimed at bringing the Holy Spirit into the hearts of sixteenth-century readers, readers ever since, and into your heart too.

Though penned close to five centuries ago, Luther's brief, clear summary of the essentials of Christian faith still ring true today.Topics covered include the Ten Commandments, the ""Creed"", the Lord's Prayer, and the sacraments of baptism and the altar. Ideas and instructions are also included for morning and evening devotions and giving thanks at mealtime. This little catechism, still widely used within the Lutheran Church, has gems of truth that many Christians will find to be both instructive and inspirational--regardless of denomination. Though few in words, it provides a wonderful explanation that has helped many to both learn the basics of Christian doctrine and apply them in a practical way to their lives.
