Book Synopsis Approaches to Design and Synthesis of Antiparasitic Drugs by : N. Anand
Download or read book Approaches to Design and Synthesis of Antiparasitic Drugs written by N. Anand and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1997-07-10 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a comprehensive and up to date account of the chemotherapy of parasitic diseases, both human and veterinary. The book starts with an overview of parasitic diseases. The body of the book is divided into two parts: antihelminthic drugs, and antiprotozoal drugs. Both parts start with chapters highlighting the 'biochemical targets' available for chemotherapeutic interference. Individual chapters deal with one chemical class of compounds and describe their origin, structure-activity relationship, mode of action, and methods of synthesis and their status both in clinical and veterinary practice. The book will be useful to a wide spectrum of readers: students embarking on a research career in parasitic chemotherapy, clinicians (and veterinarians) and clinical pharmacologists desiring detailed information about the drugs currently in use, and pharmaceutical technologists wanting to update their knowledge of the methods of manufacture.

Book Synopsis Chemistry and Biological Activities of Ivermectin by : Rashid Ali
Download or read book Chemistry and Biological Activities of Ivermectin written by Rashid Ali and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2023-10-17 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CHEMISTRY AND BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES OF IVERMECTIN The book focuses on the biological activities of ivermectin as well as the significant global utility of IVM since it was first used about 35 years ago. Ivermectin (IVM) is a “wonder drug” containing a 16-membered macrocyclic lactone ring system in its structure and derived from the family of avermectins. It was isolated by the fermentation of the soil microorganism Streptomyces avermitilis by Satoshi Omura in 1960 and studied by William C. Campbell in 1981, which allowed for its treatment of onchocerciasis (River Blindness) in Africa. Both scientists subsequently received the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. It was approved by the FDA in 1997 for the treatment of Strongyloidiasis and crusted scabies in AIDS patients. After that, IVM has attracted the tremendous attention of the scientific community and has been used for diverse purposes, including as an inhibitor of the causative virus (SARS-CoV-2). The chief purpose of this volume is to focus on the chemistry and biological activities of ivermectin. The chapters have been arranged in a systematic manner, starting from the historical background and synthesis of IVM to the pharmacological and environmental aspects, followed by diverse applications. Although the usage of ivermectin for the treatment of COVID-19 remains under investigation and controversial, one of the chapters is dedicated to its use. The anti-parasitic, anti-malarial, anti-cancer, and anti-inflammatory activities of IVM are discussed in detail. The anthelminthic and insecticidal roles of IVM are briefly described and there are several cases of IVM in dermatology. Audience Researchers, scientists, and postgraduate students working in the fields of organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry, medical science, pharmacy, biotechnology and biomedical sciences.
Book Synopsis Ivermectin and Abamectin by : William C. Campbell
Download or read book Ivermectin and Abamectin written by William C. Campbell and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ivermectin and abamectin, members of the avermectin family of compounds, were introduced to the market in the 1980's as a veterinary antiparasitic drug and agricultural pesticide, respectively. Their acceptance and commercial success have been remarkable; both are highly effective and in worldwide use. The efficacy of ivermectin in river blindness has expanded the interest in its use in human medicine. In response to the intense scientific and industrial interest in ivermectin and abamectin and the likelihood that they will be forerunners of an expanding family of drugs, this comprehensive monograph satisfies the need for a review and synthesis of current knowledge about the use of these substances in crop protection as well as in cattle, sheep, swine, horses, dogs, cats, birds, fish, reptiles, and in man. This overview presents chemical, biochemical, and microbiological data, as well as pharmacological, safety, and environmental aspects and covers practical use of the compounds as antiparasitic and pesticide agents, as well as the available safety data that have emerged from the clinical experience with human applications.

This book was released on 2013-03-07 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 31 of "Progress in Drug Research" contains 13 articles, a sub ject index, an index for all articles that have been published so far in this series of monographs, as well as an author and subject index for all 31 volumes. The reviews in this volume are particularly concerned with the therapy of helminth diseases, with pyramidinones as biody namic agents, and with quinolones which are of interest in the treat ment of infections. For a deeper understanding of the pharmacokinet ic actions of modem drugs, the articles on cooperative binding of drug molecules to DNA, on in vitro models for the study of antibiotic activi ties, on inhibitors of the renin-angiotensin system, on GAB A-drug in teractions, and on the mechanism of action of anxiolytic drugs provide a wealth offacts and new findings. The pharmacology of caffeine is re viewed from the viewpoint of its role in combination with other phy siologically active substances, and the chapter on high resolution nuc lear magnetic resonance spectroscopy demonstrates the importance of this method in the development of new drugs. Finally, the article on light and dark touches border problems of the therapy of psychic dis orders. With these contributions, the authors aim to summarize latest achieve ments in important and actual fields of drug research. Researchers who are actively engaged in the same or in similar fields of research are sure to benefit from these efforts.
