Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Graduation from high school in 1968 was a turning point for Ann, the author who was known by her middle name during school years. Ann was experiencing a lot of conflicting thoughts and emotions during that day. There was the excitement of graduation, yet there was a great sadness about leaving those friends who she saw daily during school years. What about the future? She was working at a coat factory part-time during high school and was given full-time hours upon graduation. What about further studies? Ann was pessimistic about the future as she lacked confidence and poor self-esteem and needed lots of encouragement to step out of this rut! During her high school years, Ann gave her life to Jesus as Lord and Savior and was growing in her faith. With God's help, those feelings of inadequacy and lack of confidence began to change little by little. By nature, Ann was always a caring, adventurous young girl and cared a lot about the people who crossed paths with her. This grew as she matured in faith which led her to her pastor soon after graduation to seek volunteer service through the church. One path led to another, and with each experience, the author grew in faith and in confidence. From a frightened young girl who couldn't look anybody in the eye without crying, by the grace of God, was able to eventually become part of a small faith-based mission who required its missionaries to raise their own support by speaking to churches and organizations. By the grace of God, she eventually was led to Brazil, South America, to work as a missionary. Ann became Ana in Brazil which is the Brazilian name for Ann. The adventures continued for Ana, but there were many unplanned changes in direction. God's grace has been evident throughout the years. The direction that God chooses isn't always the easiest, but it's the best! He leads, teaches, encourages, and heals all by His grace. As you read the pages of this book, may you reflect upon how God's grace has guided in your life.

Book excerpt: As Paris recoils under the turbulent political events of 1803, young English governess Anne Peters finds herself penniless, homeless and alone. But while France prepares for war she seizes the chance of escape, to a new life in the service of dashing Count Nikolai Kirov, and a new home in the glittering Russian city of St Petersburg. Thrown into the flamboyant and demanding circle of her new employer and his family, Anne moves between the city's splendour and the wild, untamed beauty of the Caucasus Mountains, and begins her transformation from Anne Peters into Anna Petrovna. But as Napoleon gathers his army for the final attack on Imperial Russia, Anna must prepare for a battle of the heart - her forbidden love for a man and a country she may never call her own.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Although it was the first permanent European settlement in the Delaware River valley, the New Sweden colony has long been ignored by American colonial historians. To right this omission, and to mark the 350th anniversary of the founding of the New Sweden colony, the University of Delaware sponsored an international conference, "New Sweden in America: Scandinavian Pioneers and Their Legacy" in March of 1988. This event brought together twenty-eight scholars from Sweden, Finland, and the United States who represented several fields, including history, anthropology, and geography. The conference papers, collected in New Sweden in America, present the first look at the New Sweden colony since the advent of modern historical methods." "The essays in this volume examine the economic and social lives of a political entity, as well as its political structures. The topics discussed include an examination of the European environment from which the colonial venture came, the colonists' relations with the Native Americans, and the Swedish and Finnish settlers' adaptation to colonial life. The essays depict seventeenth-century Sweden as it emerged from its traditional ways and isolation into the dynamic world of Western European international politics and trade, and the failed attempts to bring European mercantilist policies to New Sweden." "The fascinating stories of the trade between the Swedish and Dutch settlers and the Susquehannock and Lenni Lenape Indians, the development of pidgin languages to facilitate the trade, the devout Lutheran religious observations of the colonists, and the introduction of Finnish construction methods (especially the log cabin) are all described in this volume. To encourage further scholarship in this field, the contributors identify topics for future study and delineate where original colonial documents may be found on both sides of the Atlantic."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reconnect Your Church provides a practical, road-tested vision and process to equip church leaders to reinvigorate their church How can churches stay healthy and dynamic over the long-term? What’s needed to avoid or reverse church stagnation and decline? While some churches are vibrant and growing, many more are struggling, especially after Covid. The congregation might be declining and ageing, there’s little success in reaching out to with the gospel, and more time is spent on inward facing problems than loving God and loving others. But the potential that could be released is huge. David Brown draws on his experience revitalising a church in central Paris to offer a vision and a process for church revitalisation, with a focus on UK and European contexts. Whether you are church planting, in a well-established and thriving church, or looking to turn around a church in decline, Brown provides biblically grounded wisdom along with change management principles for long-term health. When we reapply God’s priorities to the church, we unleash new life and energy in following Christ in community.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Colours of Love is a real-life testimony on how a life should be lived and how it should not. It recounts my love for my parents, love for a woman that I loved more than my life, love for my daughter, friends, love for the countries where I lived. Love, crime and science-fiction-like experience, triggered by delusions and hallucinations, are interwoven in this narrative of life. I wrote this book when I was 55 years old, as a culmination of my life. It recounts my utmost remorse for the things that I did, but I should not have done, and for things that I did not do, but I should have done. The consequences of my decisions resulted in extraordinary loss of property, physical and intellectual. I lost my share in five houses and one apartment; I lost my profession, my wife, my daughter, my social status and freedom. None of this was my desire. Why did this happen to me? I had all prerequisites to live a successful and wealthy life. My father was a medical doctor, my mother was a piano teacher; I was a medical doctor; my wife was a medical doctor. I had permanent residency permits in two countries, Sweden and Australia. However, I ended up in prison with almost nothing. The book is written for adolescents who are just about to face challenges of their lives. It is also aimed at adults, as a mirror of how good or bad their lives are compared to a non-standard life.
