Political and territorial divisions with the Skendri Confederation keep tensions high. Religious strife between the monotheistic Slaadikaar and the polytheistic people of the Nihanese Empire erupts into outbreaks of terrorism. Prince Krell’s trusted top-ranking Admiral Dormuz, who has own dreams of Empire, secretly manipulates events so as to start an all-out war. However, when the war doesn’t go as planned, Admiral Dormuz makes a Faustian deal with an ancient race named the Guareg. Now, all sides in the conflict may pay the ultimate price of Dormuz’s ambitions… Author's Biography: Born on January 2, 1967, Kevin Kinne grew up in the small western New York town of Busti before moving to Largo, Florida in 1988. Book excerpt: John Buchan snatches Susan Ryan from a line of captives being taken to a re-education camp run by Krotch Industries. He didn’t pick her, because she was beautiful and wearing a nurse’s uniform. He picked her by size, but she was more than he could have hoped for. He swore he wouldn’t allow himself to get close to her. He wanted to avoid the pain of seeing another he loved gunned down by government contractors. She believed her fiancé was dead or implanted, so she didn’t feel guilty falling for John. They were thrown together by fate, only to be separated when Richard shows up. He is not the man she remembered. Pursued by a relentless and psycho sniper John is desperate to save some of his group and decides to split up rather than see them killed off. He loses another close to him and stumbles onto Susan who has been drugged and shot. He surrenders rather than see her further harmed, knowing she will be forced to kill him. Love is stronger than the hypnotic drug and she disobeys orders; shooting her captives instead.

A former first mate of the pirate ship shows up as they prepare to sail away; though none of them knows how. Capitan John would teach them what they need to become rich as pirates. They named their ship Orphans revenge to show they weren’t the worthless trash they were seen as. Becoming Buccaneers under Henry Morgan would make them rich without fear of the Hangman. Book excerpt: Definitive account of the last great Luftwaffe attack of World War II Gripping stories of Fw 190s and Bf 109s in combat Contains hundreds of eyewitness accounts and rare photos In the early morning of January 1, 1945, as the Battle of the Bulge smoldered to an end, the German Luftwaffe--assumed to be starved of fuel and fighting spirit--launched a massive, surprise, low-level strike on Allied airfields throughout France, Belgium, and Holland, an operation code-named Bodenplatte. More than 900 German aircraft took to the skies and attacked the vulnerable fields, destroying 200 Allied aircraft and damaging 150 more. In a pyrrhic victory, the Luftwaffe lost 271 fighters, with many more damaged, and 213 pilots--irreplaceable losses at this stage of the war.

Book excerpt: This book addresses Suzanne Collins's work from a number of literary and cultural perspectives in an effort to better understand both its significance and its appeal. It takes an interdisciplinary approach to the Hunger Games trilogy, drawing from literary studies, psychology, gender studies, media studies, philosophy, and cultural studies. An analytical rather than evaluative work, it dispenses with extended theoretical discussions and academic jargon. Assuming that readers are familiar with the entire trilogy, the book also avoids plot summary and character analysis, instead focusing on the significance of the story and its characters. It includes a biographical essay, glossaries, questions for further study, and an extensive bibliography. Instructors considering this book for use in a course may request an examination copy here.

Book excerpt: When asked to conjure an impression of the 'typical fighter pilot', you may be inclined to think of the confident, extroverted, gregarious type, rallying his men and flying in the pursuit of victory. George Frederick 'Screwball' Beurling, DSO, DFC, and DFM, certainly achieved more victories than most typical fighter pilots dream of, but in temperament, personality and style, he was a one-off. A devout Christian, teetotaler and non-smoker, Beurling wasn't to be found patronising the local bars with his fellow pilots. Instead, he committed himself solely to the art of aerial combat. His very first missions saw him pursuing lone German fighters that he ultimately destroyed. He was determined to retain focus, noting how the men who did indulge had much briefer and much less effective tours. In Maltese skies he really came into his own, shooting down 27 Axis aircraft in just 14 days. In the month of July 1942, he secured five 'kills' in just four days. In the process he was awarded the DSO, DFC and DFM, along with hero-status amongst his fellow pilots and members of the public. He survived the war, only to be killed three years later whilst landing a transport aircraft following a test flight. This biographical study serves as a tribute to one of the most successful and intriguing fighter pilots of the twentieth century, and should appeal broadly to fans of the genre.
