Book excerpt: The study focuses on the transformation in the role and the nature of the linguistic subject in Rimbaud's work, and on a parallel change in poetic form. The formulas «On me pense» and «Je est un autre» serve as the basis of the analyses. Each formulation represents a phase in the transformation of the subject: of its theoretical definition as well as of its poetic functioning in the text. The analysis shows that the changes in poetic form must be considered in relation to the theory of the subject, and that the subject as je remains the locus of Rimbaud's poetic discourse.
