In order to do this, it is necessary to understand the child's life in detail and to see the kind of conditions essential for his proper growth. No attempts at completeness have been made in either the Syllabus or the Bibliography. The object has been to suggest lines of study for persons who are not expert investigators but who are to become teachers of the young. The books and references given are such as are available to beginning students. In offering the work to the public the author hopes that it may serve to ameliorate the lot of children in the city.
