These stories have happy chapters, sad chapters, boring chapters, and exciting chapters. Some people seem to author their own stories, while others have the pens snatched from their hands. Some stories feel hopeless. Can our stories ever be rewritten? Will they have a happy ending? David Murray introduces readers to the StoryChanger, Jesus Christ—the only one who can rewrite human stories with his better Story. Both Christians and non-Christians will discover how God's Story can transform their own messy stories into stories worth telling. Brief and Accessible: Easy to recommend to both non-Christians and new Christians Biblical: Tells the first story of God's good and beautiful creation, how sin and Satan—the StoryShredder—ruined human stories, and how Jesus rewrites and redeems those stories. Personal: Shares Murray's testimony of how God changed his story and points readers toward specific ways Jesus can change their stories as well For Individual or Group Study: Includes questions for further reflection or discussion at the end of each chapter

Book excerpt: When writers write, they are getting in touch with the image of God in them. This is true in some way of all artistry, but writers especially create worlds, characters, histories, and transformation--all ex nihilo ("out of nothing"). In The Storied Life, veteran author Jared C. Wilson explores the ins and outs of writers and writing, exploring the myriad ways the craft is more about transformation than simply communication. From decades of experience and with his signature wit, Wilson brings well-earned insight, autobiographical reflections, and meaningful meditations to the topic of writing as a way of life and as a way of worship, showing how the concept of Story--our personal stories and God's grand story of redemption--shapes fiction and non-fiction writers alike. Chapters focus on topics like: The liturgy of story. Writing as a spiritual act. Perseverance and endurance. Writing as a calling. Promotion, publishing, and platform. Whether you're a long-time writer or a beginning author, a daily journaler or an occasional dabbler, The Storied Life will help you improve your craft. It will lead you to think more deeply about the disciplines and dispositions needed to write for transformation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On the heels of his successful 100 Ways to Motivate Yourself and 9 Lies That Are Holding Your Business Back, motivational speaker and author Steve Chandler has written what he considers his most important work, The Story of You. In the tradition of Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and M. Scott Peck's The Road Less Traveled, Chandler's tale of personal growth transcends all categories, with elements of psychology, business, self-help, and contemporary social commentary. With humor and biting critiques, Chandler exposes people's false ego stories for what they are and reveals the source of all success: the inner energy of will and spirit. Filled with candid dialogue from pivotal coaching sessions that Chandler has conducted (and been the subject of!), this book is a dramatic exposure of how we hold ourselves back by the stories we believe about ourselves and then project to the world. Chandler breaks new ground with revelations and fresh interpretations about personalities as diverse as: Elvis Presley, Vincent Van Gogh, Governor Bill Richardson, Dr. Andrew Weil, Hugh Hefner, and Mark Twain. By exposing your stories as the most false and limiting part of your lives, Chandler invites you into a new world of action and creative accomplishment. The Story of You will mesmerize you, stripping away the made-up limitations society asks you to believe and giving you back a fresh new life story.

Without his creativity, Jeff doesn't know if he's up to the challenge. If he wants to save his world from ruin, he needs to prove he has more to offer than his imagination.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author has a fascination with God. His belief stems from an earlier study of science and logic concluding that a transcendent, infinite entity is the most probable cause of our existence. The same study convinced him that God is One, and that he should ignore polytheistic religions in his search for understanding. A study of the Quran revealed it to be a mixture of Jewish, Christian, and pagan beliefs, and thus unlikely to be an authentic depiction of God. A deeper study of Christian history, the contradictions and implausible narratives in the New Testament, and the Old Testament variances from the earlier Hebrew Scriptures, convinced him to walk away from the Christianity of his earlier years. All this he has written about in his previously published works. Now he had but one choice: to understand what Judaism has to say about God. For this he sought the opinions of earlier Jewish scholars - Maimonides, Rabbi Ibn Ezra, Hasdai Crescas, and others, and more modern commentators, Hirsch, Kook, and most especially Rabbi Nathan Lopes Cardozo, in the title of whose book, “Jewish Law in Rebellion”, he found a kindred spirit, echoing his own rebellion against religions in general. He considers religions to be too complacent, believing that they already know the God Whom the Jews describe as Ein Sof – the Infinite and Unknowable God. The author contends that cannot truly know God, agreeing with Maimonides that we can only describe God in terms of what He is not. Thus, his search continues, believing that God knows the fallibility of the mankind He created, and likely prefers that we seek without finding, rather than in turn, accept vicariously the perceptions of others who have not sought for themselves. Indoctrination has its dangers, whether in ideology, politics, or religion.

Book excerpt: In time for the 75th anniversary of the Man of Steel, comes the first comprehensive literary biography of Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel, creators of the DC Comics superhero Superman and the inspiration for Michael Chabon's Kavalier and Clay Drawing on ten years of research in the trenches of Cleveland libraries, boarded-up high schools, and secret, private collections, and a love of comic books, Brad Ricca's Super Boys is the first ever full biography about Superman's creators. Among scores of new discoveries, the book reveals the first stories and pictures ever published by the two, where the first Superman story really came from, the real inspiration for Lois Lane, the template for Superman's costume, and much, much more. Super Boys also tracks the boys' unknown, often mysterious lives after they left Superman, including Siegel's secret work during World War II and never-before-seen work from Shuster. Super Boys explains, finally, what exactly happened with the infamous check for $130 that pulled Superman away from his creators—and gave control of the character to the publisher. Ricca also uncovers the true nature of Jerry's father's death, a crime that has always remained a mystery. Super Boys is the story of a long friendship between boys who grew to be men and the standard that would be impossible for both of them to live up to.
