Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Peter Drucker once referred to the distribution infrastructure of business as "the economy's dark continent." Going to Market maps this territory for managers and scholars. The study approaches channel management as a marketing system and a key dimension of corporate strategy. Based on extensive field research on more than 50 companies, including IBM, GE, Control Data Corporation, and U.S. Steel, it considers channel issues related to sales organization, pricing, salesforce/reseller relationships, inter- and intrachannel rivalry, and gray markets. The book also discusses the historical and legal contexts for channel policies in the United States. Going to Market offers managers valuable guidance in this increasingly important aspect of competitive strategy.

Book excerpt: In the face of changing market dynamics and increased competition, the strongest of companies, the companies that are bold and create new value, of course, will thrive. Will you be among them? Creating a sustainable, relevant, and profitable business, not just for today, but for tomorrow will require a new mindset and the ability to reinvent your organization when necessary. Will you be bold enough to break away from the pack of distributors who are using outdated business models and instead undertake the difficult work necessary to turn your organization into an unstoppable force? I would argue that, in order to do these things and maintain your company's relevancy in this age of disruption, you need to take the necessary steps toward turning your business into a juggernaut. A juggernaut is an unstoppable, overpowering force. In business; it can refer to a company that has such incredible momentum that it consistently outperforms the market, often in stunning ways. When you look at the distribution industry, you'll discover a limited number of true juggernauts with amazing stories that you can learn from. In this essay, we'll look at these businesses and the lessons we must pull from their innovative business models.

This book was released on 1962 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Production and Distribution of Knowledge in the United States marked the beginning of the study of our postindustrial information society. Austrian-born economist Fritz Machlup had focused his research on the patent system, but he came to realize that patents were simply one part of a much bigger "knowledge economy." He then expanded the scope of his work to evaluate everything from stationery and typewriters to advertising to presidential addresses--anything that involved the activity of telling anyone anything. The Production and Distribution of Knowledge in the United States then revealed the new and startling shape of the U.S. economy. Machlup's cool appraisal of the data showed that the knowledge industry accounted for nearly 29 percent of the U.S. gross national product, and that 43 percent of the civilian labor force consisted of knowledge transmitters or full-time knowledge receivers. Indeed, the proportion of the labor force involved in the knowledge economy increased from 11 to 32 percent between 1900 and 1959--a monumental shift. Beyond documenting this revolution, Machlup founded the wholly new field of information economics. The transformation to a knowledge economy has resonated throughout the rest of the century, especially with the rise of the Internet. As two recent observers noted, "Information goods--from movies and music to software code and stock quotes--have supplanted industrial goods as the key drivers of world markets." Continued study of this change and its effects is testament to Fritz Machlup's pioneering work.

It provides information for those with empty buildings on their hands, those trying to find space for new and/or growing enterprises and those faced with the problem of how to manage multi-tenant, multi-use buildings. An outline of feasibility studies both from the standpoint of users looking for a building and buildings looking for a use is also included. One is matched with the other. The whole process is explained and placed in a legal and planning framework. Allowances for technological change and expansion are outlined as well as an explanation of the significance of various patterns of ownership, tenancy and management that can be adopted. As the container has been universally acepted for use in materials handling, this book is internationally relevant. Preface by George Heery AIA of the Heery Corporation, one of the largest and most successful industrial storage and distribution companies in the US.

Book excerpt: "Across more than fifty essays, Keywords for Comics Studies provides a rich, interdisciplinary vocabulary for comics and sequential art, and identifies new avenues of research into one of the most popular and diverse visual media of the twentieth and twenty-first century. In an original twist on the NYU Keywords mission, the terms in this volume combine attention to the unique aesthetic practices of a distinct medium, comics, with some of the most fundamental concepts of the humanities broadly. Readers will see how scholars, cultural critics, and comics artists from a range of fields-including media and film studies, queer and feminist theory, and critical race and transgender studies among others-take up sequential art as both an object of analysis and a medium for developing new theories about embodiment, identity, literacy, audience reception, genre, cultural politics and more. To do so, Keywords for Comics Studies presents an array of original and inventive analyses of terms central to the study of comics and sequential art, but traditionally siloed in distinct lexicons: these include creative or aesthetic terms like Ink, Creator, Border, and Panel; conceptual terms like trans*, disability, universe, and fantasy; genre terms, like Zine, Pornography, Superhero, and Manga; and canonical terms like X-Men, Archie, Watchmen and Love and Rockets. Written as much for students and lay readers as professors and experts in the field, Keywords for Comics Studies revivifies the fantasy and magic of reading comics in its kaleidoscopic view of the field's most compelling and imaginative ideas."--
