Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When a boy, Paul Blair, from New York is granted a scholarship to an exclusive boarding school in England, he has no inkling of the future contribution he will make to humanity. He is befriended by another boarder, a Knight of the Realm. Even though they are from two different ends of the social spectrum, their friendship takes them into adulthood. Blair became a member of the US Special Forces and worked with the UN. His friend Sir Charles Spencer had taken to a life of crime. He used his construction company and position in society as a front to build a criminal empire and multibillion dollar fortune. The struggle between these two will take them from England to Africa, the Middle East, and the USA. Spencer decided the quickest way to make money was to plunder third-world countries of their mineral wealth. It is Blair who brings him to stand before the International Court of Justice in the Hague to answer for those crimes. The outcome will be tragic for one of them.

Book excerpt: This IBM® Redbooks® publication describes how IBM has enhanced its managed file transfer portfolio consisting of MQ File Transfer Edition with the Sterling Business Integration Suite. The Sterling Business Integration Suite consists of Sterling File Gateway and Sterling Connect:Direct. Sterling Commerce, an IBM company, transforms and optimizes your business collaboration network by improving business agility, efficiency, and performance. These managed file transfer components from Sterling Commerce, an IBM company, partnered with MQ File Transfer Edition deliver proven value by protecting privacy and integrity of data in transit with governance, eliminate operations cell center traffic regarding file transfer exceptions, show a faster time to revenue, and bring a six-sigma level performance to key business processes. The integration and combination of these products allows for organizations to switch between protocols internally, allowing for diversity across business needs while still positioning the organization to easily move files outside their secured intra-enterprise network through an edge server to the external trading partner regardless of what protocol the external trading partner is using. This book is intended for organizations that find themselves wanting to trade data in a secure, reliable, and auditable way across both intra-enterprise and multi-enterprise protocols.

Book excerpt: Across numerous vertical industries, enterprises are challenged to improve processing efficiency as transactions flow from their business communities to their internal systems and vice versa, simplify management and expansion of the external communities, accommodate customer and supplier preferences, govern the flow of information, enforce policy and standards, and protect sensitive information. Throughout this process, external partners must be on-boarded and off-boarded, information must flow across multiple communications infrastructures, and data must be mapped and transformed for consumption across multiple applications. Some transactions require synchronous or real-time processing while others are of a more periodic nature. For some classes of customer or supplier, the enterprise might prefer a locally-managed, on-premise solution. For some types of communities (often small businesses), an as-a-Service solution might be the best option. Many large enterprises combine the on-premise and as-a-Service approach to serve different categories of business partners (customers or suppliers). This IBM® Redbooks® publication focuses on solutions for end-to-end integration in complex value chains and presents several end-to-end common integration scenarios with IBM Sterling and IBM WebSphere® portfolios. We believe that this publication will be a reference for IT Specialists and IT Architects implementing an integration solution architecture involving IBM Sterling and IBM WebSphere portfolios.

This book was released on 2020-07-30 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An in-depth history of the small arms made by the Sterling Company of Dagenham, Essex, England, from 1940 until Sterling was purchase by British Aerospace in 1989 and closed. The Lanchester and the Patchett Machine Carbines were both developed at Sterling Engineering Co Ltd during World War II. With the appearance of the earliest Patchett prototypes the military began testing them in ever more rigorous trials, wherein the Patchett kept proving its merits. This led to limited UK adoption of the MkII Patchett as the L2A1 in 1953, and the ‘first Sterling’, the MkII, as the L2A2 in 1955. Then came Sterling’s ‘Crown Jewel’, the superb Mk4, adopted as the general-issue UK ‘Gun, Sub-Machine, L2A3’ in September, 1955. Manufactured briefly but intensively by ROF Fazakerley (1955-1959) and by Sterling for over 30 years, nearly 4000,000 were made. Unlike wraparound bolt designs like the UZI, the Sterling was capable of being truly silenced with standard 9mm ball ammunition (as opposed to being merely ‘supressed). The excellent silenced Sterling-Patchett Mk5, adopted as the UK L34A1 in 1967, is the only Sterling remaining in British Service. All prototypes, military Marks, commercial and licensed production models of the Sterling are described, including the Canadian C1 SMG and the Indian 1A Carbine. Contains notes on manufacturing methods and procedures as used at Sterling, ROF Fazakerley, Canadian Arsenals Limited and the Indian Small Arms Factory, Kanpur (Cawnpore), plus extensive notes on inter-model interchangeability, serial number ranges, quantities produced, client-country purchases of the various Sterling Marks, and accessories.

Whilst considerable work has been done on Britain's relations with Europe and with America, the complexities of the sterling area have remained obscure. This volume makes a significant contribution to unravelling the strands of British external economic policy in the post-war period.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1933, the original purpose of this book was to draw attention to the international aspects of monetary policy and to put forward the case for international co-operation in the monetary sphere. Paul Einzig highlights the negative impact that a lack of international spirit in monetary policy can have and promotes an increased understanding amongst nations. He discusses the failure of the Monetary and Economic Conference of June-July 1933 and expresses his belief that the monetary crisis of the time could have been solved, if not through an agreement, then through the inevitable inflationary effect of the increasing economic difficulties.
