Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a novel about people who find themselves in the middle of a horrific conflict and how they survive. Their choices affect their families, the people they love, and the course of their lives. Their stories start before the events in Sudan touch them, following them through challenges and triumphs, as they rebuild their lives. What they have in common with the rest of us is that their journeys are about finding out what kind of people they are: Should they try to draw strength from their anger or should they let it go? Is it better to stick with what you know or find the courage to change?

Book excerpt: Required reading at Harvard Business School and Columbia Business School. Everyone wants to be more appealing and effective, but few believe we can manage the personal magnetism of a Bill Clinton or an Oprah Winfrey. John Neffinger and Matthew Kohut trace the path to influence through a balance of strength (the root of respect) and warmth (the root of affection). Each seems simple, but only a few of us figure out the tricky task of projecting both at once. Drawing on cutting-edge social science research as well as their own work with Fortune 500 executives, members of Congress, TED speakers, and Nobel Prize winners, Neffinger and Kohut reveal how we size each other up—and how we can learn to win the admiration, respect, and affection we desire.

Book excerpt: Advance praise for Compel: "For over thirty years, Mr. Gilbreath has wowed audiences with his dynamic presentations and influential books. For the first time, he is pulling away the curtain and revealing the underlying dynamics that have made him one of the most compelling speakers and authors of our generation." —Howard Drutman, PhD, clinical psychologist "Spend time with Bob Gilbreath and you'll see what 'compelling' looks like in person. Read this book and you'll see what it looks like on paper. In years past, Bob and I have shared the podium, coauthored a handbook, laughed hard, and had great fun working together. I've never had a more powerful thinking partner, and you won't find a more authoritative voice on how you can become more compelling yourself." —Price Pritchett, PhD, coauthor of High-Velocity Culture Change "There are very few writers who can do what Bob Gilbreath does: take on this topic with proven experience and heartfelt, genuine intent. This book is compelling, offering literally hundreds of practical ideas to implement in everyday management situations." —Robin Jones, PhD, Global Business Strategy Leader, IBM Business Consulting Services "I have worked with Bob many times in my thirty-six-year professional consulting career. His presence and his ideas have always been compelling, and now I know why! If you need to get important things accomplished with and through others, this is the book for you. Be sure to have pen and paper ready from the start." —John D. Smith, former partner, Accenture

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Augustine's homilies on the Gospel of John are masterpieces not only of theological profundity but also of pastoral engagement. This volume also includes the index for Homilies on the Gospel of John (1-40). Few ancient Christian authors attempted anything like a complete commentary on the Gospel of John, among them Origen, John Chrysostom and Augustine. Of these, Augustine's must count as the greatest. Unlike Origen's, it has come down to us in its entirety, and of the others that remain it is certainly the most theologically profound. John's gospel allows Augustine to range broadly over themes that were his life’s work —the Trinity, the person of Christ, the nature of the Church and its sacraments, the fulfillment of the divine plan. The 124 homilies that constitute Augustine's commentary, however, are masterpieces not only of theological profundity but also of pastoral engagement. In the question-and-answer style that he frequently employs, for example, one can sense Augustine's real awareness of his congregation's struggles with the gospel text. And the congregation's response to Augustine, which he frequently alludes to, is an indication of the success of his dialogical preaching style. The Johannine literature drew out the best in Augustine. The Homilies on the Gospel of John are the indispensable complement to The Homilies on The First Epistle of John, published in this series, and they should be a part of any serious theological library.

Book excerpt: I go by Rose. But don't let the delicate name fool you-I'm all thorns... The polished metal stakes strapped to my thighs have pierced the hearts of so many vampires I've lost count. And after five years I still haven't found him-the vamp with one blue eye and one brown. The one who slaughtered my mother and left me, a child, to sit screaming in a pool of her still-warm blood. With any luck, he'll come to me. You see, I've made something of a name for myself with my trade. It seems more and more of the bloodsucking bastards seek to find me every day. Each of them wanting to be the one to say they plucked The Black Rose. It's not until a group of three finds me that I think I've finally met my match. But these aren't just any nameless, faceless vamps. I know them. Or, at least, I knew them-when they were still human. Worst of all, I owe them a debt. But paying it means I'll need to face my worst fear... that I may not be entirely human, either ____________________________________________________________________________ Compel Me is the start to a steamy new reverse harem vampire romance from bestselling author, Elena Lawson.
