Book Synopsis The Stars Beckoned by : Candy Wellins
Download or read book The Stars Beckoned written by Candy Wellins and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2021-04-20 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A lyrical picture book biography of Edward White, the first American to walk in space--and an ode to the beauty and wonder of the stars that brought him there. Edward White loved the night, lived where stars were big and bright. The evening sky-- so wide, so high. Made him wonder. Made him sigh. Edward White was the first American astronaut to walk in space. But before his spacewalk, he was just a boy who loved the stars. As he grew up, he would look up at the night sky in wonder--he knew that, one day, he would visit the stars themselves. In this touching and poignant picture book biography, we see how Edward's passion for the stars shaped the course of his life, and how he came to realize, even in the depths of space, what was ultimately most important to him--his family. With backmatter containing photos and more information on Edward's life, Candy Wellins and Courtney Dawson deliver a book that is as much a feast for readers' eyes as the stars were for Edward's. Praise for The Stars Beckoned: "The right stuff for children with the stars in their eyes." --Kirkus Reviews "An introduction to a space pioneer that’s ideal for the youngest nonfiction readers." --Publishers Weekly

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of an International Latino Book Award, When the Stars Go Blue is a contemporary interpretation of Bizet's Carmen in which the fiery gypsy is reinvented as a modern-day dancer, torn between the attentions of an intense, disciplined music prodigy and a flamboyant soccer player. Dance is Soledad Reyes's life. About to graduate from Miami's Biscayne High School for the Performing Arts, she plans on spending her last summer at home teaching in a dance studio, saving money, and eventually auditioning for dance companies. That is, until fate intervenes in the form of fellow student Jonathan Crandall who has what sounds like an outrageous proposition: Forget teaching. Why not spend the summer performing in the intense environment of the competitive drum and bugle corps? The corps is going to be performing Carmen, and the opportunity to portray the character of the sultry gypsy proves too tempting for Soledad to pass up, as well as the opportunity to spend more time with Jonathan, who intrigues her in a way no boy ever has before. But in an uncanny echo of the story they perform every evening, an unexpected competitor for Soledad's affections appears: Taz, a member of an all-star Spanish soccer team. One explosive encounter later Soledad finds not only her relationship with Jonathan threatened, but her entire future as a professional dancer.

And though his hive of motorcycle riding alpha warriors each come with their own merits, not all four are friendly--some would rather throw me to our enemies than help me. It makes them especially nervous that their powers don't seem to work when I'm nearby. But it soon becomes clear that we'll need each other to get out of this alive. Early Reviews Easily a new classic Normally I either power read through an entire book or read it over a month as a casual read. This story captured me from the first chapter, I had to force myself to stop halfway through it to digest the concepts and story. Upon restarting it the next day I found that I was even re-reading a couple of chapters from before where I left off just to refresh my memory so I did not miss a single nuance of the story. I loved it!!! From the concept to your descriptive writing, you had me hooked from the beginning. Yes, space-themed novels appeal to me, but I am sure anyone could find something they love about this book. The Plot Thickens I loved the book! The storyline was great. The characters believable. I really liked the characters of Jason, Seattle, and Tinker. Mu-monk was absolutely the best character to me! Can't wait till the next book. I really hope this is the start of a great series.
