Book Synopsis Fluid-Structure Interactions, Volume 2 by : Michael P. Paidoussis
Download or read book Fluid-Structure Interactions, Volume 2 written by Michael P. Paidoussis and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-12-15 with total page 1033 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The text is richly illustrated, lightly written and more wide-ranging than Volume 1. A comprehensive treatment of fluid-structure interactions involving axial flow and slender structures, such as piping, human veins, aircraft, nuclear reactor fuel and submarine skins. The emphasis is on fundamentals, particularly on the physical understanding and underlying mechanisms, as well as on applications. This book will be invaluable for researchers, professional engineers, applied scientists and students involved in the design, study or operation or systems involving fluid flow, internal or external structures, wind or ocean currents Emphasizes real-world analysis of problems encountered in the field and presents their solutions A practical and thorough literature review of over 1400 references, an excellent reference document Bridges the gap between academic researchers and practitioners in industry

Download or read book Fluid-Structure Interactions written by Michael P. Paidoussis and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-12-07 with total page 885 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first of two books concentrating on the dynamics of slender bodies within or containing axial flow, Fluid-Structure Interaction, Volume 1 covers the fundamentals and mechanisms giving rise to flow-induced vibration, with a particular focus on the challenges associated with pipes conveying fluid. This volume has been thoroughly updated to reference the latest developments in the field, with a continued emphasis on the understanding of dynamical behaviour and analytical methods needed to provide long-term solutions and validate the latest computational methods and codes. In this edition, Chapter 7 from Volume 2 has also been moved to Volume 1, meaning that Volume 1 now mainly treats the dynamics of systems subjected to internal flow, whereas in Volume 2 the axial flow is in most cases external to the flow or annular. Provides an in-depth review of an extensive range of fluid-structure interaction topics, with detailed real-world examples and thorough referencing throughout for additional detail Organized by structure and problem type, allowing you to dip into the sections that are relevant to the particular problem you are facing, with numerous appendices containing the equations relevant to specific problems Supports development of long-term solutions by focusing on the fundamentals and mechanisms needed to understand underlying causes and operating conditions under which apparent solutions might not prove effective
Book Synopsis African Doctorates in Mathematics by :
Download or read book African Doctorates in Mathematics written by and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2007 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents a catalogue of over 2000 doctoral theses by Africans in all fields of mathematics, including applied mathematics, mathematics education and history of mathematics. The introduction contains information about distribution by country, institutions, period, and by gender, about mathematical density, and mobility of mathematicians. Several appendices are included (female doctorate holders, doctorates in mathematics education, doctorates awarded by African universities to non-Africans, doctoral theses by non-Africans about mathematics in Africa, activities of African mathematicians at the service of their communities). Paulus Gerdes compiled the information in his capacity of Chairman of the African Mathematical Union Commission for the History of Mathematics in Africa (AMUCHMA). The book contains a preface by Mohamed Hassan, President of the African Academy of Sciences (AAS) and Executive Director of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS). (383 pp.)
Book Synopsis The Stability of an Infinite Elastic Pipe with Uniform Mean Flow by : E. A. Skelton
Download or read book The Stability of an Infinite Elastic Pipe with Uniform Mean Flow written by E. A. Skelton and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pipe conveying incompressible fluid is modelled using linear beam theory. The stability of the system is analysed using a causal approach which is able to distinguish between absolute and convective instabilities. Closed-form expressions for the stability boundaries of the beam theory model are derived analytically. The dissipation-free pipe is absolutely unstable if the ratio of the mass per unit length of the pipe to that of the contained fluid is greater than one-eighth, otherwise it is convectively unstable at low excitation frequencies and stable at high frequencies. The pipe is found to be absolutely unstable when damping is included. Some numerical results are presented for a steel pipe and a rubber pipe, both of which contain water. (Author).
