Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analytical flame spectroscopy is a rich and growing disci pline, rooted in the broad fields of physics and chemistry. Its applications abound not only in these large areas, but also thrive in the geosciences, materials science, and clinical and biochemical analysis. As an inevitable corollary of the field's growth, the scientist seeking to develop a fluent expertise has been forced to assimilate and master a rapidly increasing quantity of information. Our guiding hope in creating the present work has therefore been to provide the investigator with a single reference source for nearly all the material ever likely to be required in the daily conduct of basic or applied research. Flame spectroscopy is not a new analytical field. It has seen at least three major eras, in each of which much new information was developed - the Bunsen-Kirchhoff years, the Beckman D. U. years, and finally the atomic absorption years. In the Bunsen-Kirchhoff era, several new elements were discovered. During the Beckman years - nearly all the early flame emission data were taken on modified Beckman D. U. spectrometers - trace metal analysis for the alkaline metals and for many alkaline earth elements reached a new high (low?) - the parts per million level. More recently, trace metal analysis has in general achieved a new maturity with the advent of atomic absorption analysis, which was co-discovered by C. Th. J. Alkemade and Alan Walsh in 1955.

Download or read book Analytical Atomic Spectrometry with Flames and Plasmas written by José A. C. Broekaert and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2006-05-12 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This completely revised second edition of the standard work has been expanded by some twenty percent to include more information on the latest developments and new apparatus. In particular, sections have been added on microplasmas and new types of spectrometers, while that on the rapidly expanding field of speciations with practical examples from life and environmental sciences have been included. Still in one handy volume, the book covers all the important modern aspects of atomic fluorescence, emission and absorption spectroscopy as well as plasma mass spectroscopy in a readily comprehensible and practice-oriented manner. A thorough explanation of the physical, theoretical and technical basics, example applications including the concrete execution of analysis and comprehensive cross-references to the latest literature allow even newcomers easy access to the methodologies described.

Book Synopsis Metal Vapours in Flames by : C. Th. J. Alkemade
Download or read book Metal Vapours in Flames written by C. Th. J. Alkemade and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 1056 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is unique in comprising our present knowledge about the general state of, and the processes involving, metal vapours in combustion flames. It deals thoroughly with a great variety of experimental techniques, including many practical hints, and synthesizes the results in this field of research which are often scattered across publications in widely different areas of science and technology and over a large time span. An account is given of the results of recent and past flame experiments on the properties of metal species and the processes in which they take part. Properties and processes that are discussed 'in extenso' include the dissociation energy of metal compounds, collisional broadening of atomic lines, physical and chemical excitation and quenching of electric states, formation reactions of metal compounds, ionization and diffusion. Many of the topics and experimental methods discussed are also of interest in other fields of fundamental and applied science. In particular, explicit conclusions are drawn as to the analytical application of flame spectroscopy.

This book was released on 1993 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This compendium is dedicated to Professor Stanford Solomon Penner in celebration of his seventieth birthday. The authors are his former students, associates, and friends, who have been profoundly influenced by him, primarily as a consequence of the example he set forth by his own work and habits, as well as by the leadership he provided in many technological endeavours." "As one of the most prominent scientists of our times he has been particularly instrumental in advancing the frontiers of combustion technology, while, concomitantly, developing quantitative spectroscopy into a significant diagnostic discipline and assuming a world-renown position of leadership in energy issues. This book consists of papers in the fields of energy, combustion, and spectroscopy - subjects resplendent with his pioneering contributions. Among the topics included here are turbulent combustion, flame structure, detonation, spectroscopic diagnostics, spectroscopy of atmospheric gases and physical problems associated with nuclear reactors, as well as electric power distribution and energy conservation." "Contained here also is his remarkable curriculum vitae and the formidable list of his publications. The editors take this opportunity of conveying to him their best wishes for continuing productive scholarship - the trademark of his life - for many years to come."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Book Synopsis Ultrafast Infrared Vibrational Spectroscopy by : Michael D. Fayer
Download or read book Ultrafast Infrared Vibrational Spectroscopy written by Michael D. Fayer and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-03-04 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The advent of laser-based sources of ultrafast infrared pulses has extended the study of very fast molecular dynamics to the observation of processes manifested through their effects on the vibrations of molecules. In addition, non-linear infrared spectroscopic techniques make it possible to examine intra- and intermolecular interactions and how such interactions evolve on very fast time scales, but also in some instances on very slow time scales. Ultrafast Infrared Vibrational Spectroscopy is an advanced overview of the field of ultrafast infrared vibrational spectroscopy based on the scientific research of the leading figures in the field. The book discusses experimental and theoretical topics reflecting the latest accomplishments and understanding of ultrafast infrared vibrational spectroscopy. Each chapter provides background, details of methods, and explication of a topic of current research interest. Experimental and theoretical studies cover topics as diverse as the dynamics of water and the dynamics and structure of biological molecules. Methods covered include vibrational echo chemical exchange spectroscopy, IR-Raman spectroscopy, time resolved sum frequency generation, and 2D IR spectroscopy. Edited by a recognized leader in the field and with contributions from top researchers, including experimentalists and theoreticians, this book presents the latest research methods and results. It will serve as an excellent resource for those new to the field, experts in the field, and individuals who want to gain an understanding of particular methods and research topics.
