Book excerpt: Was the crash deliberately contrived, a diabolical piece of sabotage, or was it cruelly fortuitous? Simon Drake—Miss Nielsen’s very personable and popular lawyer-detective—happens to be at the airport at the time of the crash, and notices that some surprising people have been awaiting the ill-fated plane: among them, a gangster boss and a millionaire playboy. He hastens to take his boat out into the bay, to help search for possible survivors, but all he manages to pick up is one piece of hand luggage—a cosmetics case which is identified as belonging to Sigrid Thorsen, a young starlet who was joining her fiancé at Los Angeles. And the severed key concealed in the case is the first of many clues in the extremely dangerous and complex adventure which invades Drake’s life. The mystery develops in many directions, and Drake finds himself and his friens more and more involved. In the background there is the hovering, enigmatic presence of the gangster boss. And from time to time a trio of utterly amoral hippies erupt into the narrative. As we approach the very tense climax, the plot grows darker and more deadly: Miss Nielsen has many surprises in reserve.

Book excerpt: This book, first published in 1932, demonstrates how the control of certain ‘-isms’ has for long moulded the interpretation of Indian belief and ritual by Western writers particularly. In every chapter there is some new coordination, often iconoclastic of then-accepted theory, whilst the new wealth of customs carefully recorded is astonishing. Long disputed problems such as that of the Maratha ‘devak’, or that of the ceremonial sowing of seedlings known to Western scholars as the ‘gardens of Adonis’, have at last been settled through careful research.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about decoding Horoscope through a philosophical background with a unique amalgamation through mythological stories, which gives us a clue as to how to atone for your sins. In this book, the author has covered all the Dhan Yogas, Veeprit Raj Yogas and Neechbhang Raj Yogas with the timing of wealth. We have the lock in the form of Luck, which represents the Ninth house of Lakshmi in the Horoscope, but sometimes we cannot find the right key to unlock the house of Luck. Because of evil deeds or sinful acts done in the past life, the native has Shrapit Dosh or curse which manifest in the present, so a lock of Past can be unlocked by finding a right Key in Present as our Past has the clue of our Present in a Horoscope. The intent of writing this book is not to claim to change someone's future but to help nurture and transform a native's future by doing karmic deeds so that natives can sail through easily in his/her life. This book is not about predictive astrology; it is about sharing the philosophy of life that one has to adapt to lead a sin-free life

Book Synopsis The Impossible Fairy Tale by : Han Yujoo
Download or read book The Impossible Fairy Tale written by Han Yujoo and published by Graywolf Press. This book was released on 2017-03-07 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A chilling, wildly original novel from a major new voice from South Korea The Impossible Fairy Tale is the story of two unexceptional grade-school girls. Mia is “lucky”—she is spoiled by her mother and, as she explains, her two fathers. She gloats over her exotic imported color pencils and won’t be denied a coveted sweater. Then there is the Child who, by contrast, is neither lucky nor unlucky. She makes so little impression that she seems not even to merit a name. At school, their fellow students, whether lucky or luckless or unlucky, seem consumed by an almost murderous rage. Adults are nearly invisible, and the society the children create on their own is marked by cruelty and soul-crushing hierarchies. Then, one day, the Child sneaks into the classroom after hours and adds ominous sentences to her classmates’ notebooks. This sinister but initially inconsequential act unlocks a series of events that end in horrible violence. But that is not the end of this eerie, unpredictable novel. A teacher, who is also this book’s author, wakes from an intense dream. When she arrives at her next class, she recognizes a student: the Child, who knows about the events of the novel’s first half, which took place years earlier. Han Yujoo’s The Impossible Fairy Tale is a fresh and terrifying exploration of the ethics of art making and of the stinging consequences of neglect.
