Book excerpt: Now a Netflix Mandarin original drama! From the New York Times bestselling author of The Night Tiger, a Reese’s Book Club pick Yangsze Choo’s stunning debut, The Ghost Bride, is a startlingly original novel infused with Chinese folklore, romantic intrigue, and unexpected supernatural twists. Li Lan, the daughter of a respectable Chinese family in colonial Malaysia, hopes for a favorable marriage, but her father has lost his fortune, and she has few suitors. Instead, the wealthy Lim family urges her to become a “ghost bride” for their son, who has recently died under mysterious circumstances. Rarely practiced, a traditional ghost marriage is used to placate a restless spirit. Such a union would guarantee Li Lan a home for the rest of her days, but at what price? Night after night, Li Lan is drawn into the shadowy parallel world of the Chinese afterlife, where she must uncover the Lim family’s darkest secrets—and the truth about her own family. Reminiscent of Lisa See’s Peony in Love and Amy Tan’s The Bonesetter’s Daughter, The Ghost Bride is a wondrous coming-of-age story and from a remarkable new voice in fiction.

Eleven-year-old houseboy Ren is also on a mission, racing to fulfill his former master’s dying wish: that Ren find the man’s finger, lost years ago in an accident, and bury it with his body. This book was released on 2018-12-18 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The true consolidation of this book and 'How to Believe in Christ According to the Gospel of John' are both consolidated in "The Way, the Truth, and the Light According to the Gospel and Gospel and Revelation of John" which is FREE to download from here and others online. This is a sequel to "How to believe in Christ According to the Gospel of John". Revelation affirms reincarnation, that we are judged by our works, and describes the City of God as half the size of the planet Mercury - a volume able to accommodate more than 47,000 trillion apartments. It chronicles the redemption of Adam's lineage by the incorporation of God in Christ, and Christ in Adam's human lineage. The Second Death is mentioned four times in Revelation. It describes the Final Judgment of all souls, including the unforgivable souls and followers of Satan that are not in the Book of Life and other books regarding their works. The bad souls are cast into the Lake of Fire, assumed to perish, as Christ said in Matthew [10:28]: “And fear not them who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Matthew [13:30-40 ] lays out Revelation's plot: “Let both [the good and the evil] grow together until the harvest:... He that sows the good seed is the Son of man; 38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom, but the tares are the children of the wicked one; 39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. 40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire [same as the second death's lake of fire in Revelation]; so shall it be in the end of this world.” And in comparison, Revelation [22:10-12] “Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand. [11] He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. [12] And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.” The analysis of John's Gospel and his Revelation vision is closely tied to Genesis, forming a non-contradictory system of beliefs. Pure Christianity is by far the toughest religion to follow. The true early Christians did not passively submit to torture and death because they liked it, but by believing in and following the teachings and example of Christ. It required a suppression of all of their survival instincts, procreation instincts, social approval and status, wealth, and worldly pleasures and passions. For example, it requests that followers to be celibate, give up worldly goods, turn the other cheek, give their shirt off their back, hate/deny their worldly life, avoid the honor of men, serve and feed all in need, seek martyrdom, and more. Yet it is also a most rewarding religion based on its ideals in the pureness of body, heart, mind, will, and awareness it advocates in the spirit. Unfortunately, very few can, and even those who spoke and saw Jesus directly had a very hard time following his teachings and example. Yet billions currently believe themselves to be true Christians. All true knowledge should be obtained internally by your own subjective effort and by the Holy Spirit of Truth and not just by reading, and if it were not so, Christ would have written copious works for us to be saved with just an easy read.

Book excerpt: “What girl can’t identify with Never the Bride? This is a fabulously funny novel with deep truths embedded in its pages.” –Kristin Billerbeck, author of What a Girl Wants “I admire writers who employ words to paint touchable pictures, likable characters, introducing us to instant friends who lead us to unexpected endings. That’s why I love Never The Bride.” –SQuire Rushnell, author of the When GOD Winks books Eleven Bridesmaid Dresses Don’t Lie Since she was just a little girl, Jessie Stone dreamed up hundreds of marriage proposals, doodled the romantic ideas in her journal with her treasured purple pen, and fantasized about wedding dresses and falling in love. She’s been a bridesmaid nearly a dozen times, waved numerous couples off to sunny honeymoons, and shopped in more department stores for half-price fondue pots than she cares to remember. But shopping for one key component of these countless proposals hasn't been quite as productive–a future husband. The man she thought she would marry cheated on her. The crush she has on her best friend Blake is at very best…well, crushing. And speed dating has only churned out memorable horror stories. So when God shows up one day, in the flesh, and becomes a walking, talking part of her life, Jessie is skeptical. What will it take to convince her that the Almighty has a better plan than one she’s already cooked up in her journals? Can she turn over her pen and trust someone else to craft a love story beyond her wildest dreams? Cheryl McKay is the screenwriter for the award-winning film The Ultimate Gift. She also wrote an episode of Gigi: God’s Little Princess, based on the book by Sheila Walsh, and Taylor’s Wall, a drama about high-school violence. She’s been writing since the tender age of five when she penned her first play. Cheryl is originally from Boston, Massachusetts, and currently lives in Los Angeles. Rene Gutteridge is a critically acclaimed comedy writer and novelist. She is the author of fifteen novels including the Boo series, My Life as a Doormat, the Occupational Hazards series, and the novelization of the motion picture The Ultimate Gift. She lives in Oklahoma with her family.

Book excerpt: A novel that is “utterly absorbing, and full of wit [with] a doozy of a twist . . . An all-around delight” (Maria Semple, author of Where’d You Go, Bernadette?). Charles Marlow teaches his high school English students that language will expand their worlds. But linguistic precision cannot help him connect with his autistic son, his ex-wife, or his college-bound daughter, who has just flown the nest. He’s at the end of a road he’s traveled on autopilot for years when a series of events forces him to think back on the lifetime of decisions and indecisions that have brought him to this point. With the help of an ambitious art student, an Italian-speaking nun, and the memory of a boy in a white suit who inscribed his childhood with both solace and sorrow, Charles may finally be able to rewrite the script of his life. From the national-bestselling author of Broken for You, Language Arts is an affecting tale of love, loss, and language—its powers and its perils.

Here in this landmark work, which he insists is his last, his goal is to help readers see the centrality of stories, to read and hear Scripture as story and not as history, and to learn to enrich and expand their lives by looking at the ?story behind the story.? He wants to break readers out of the literalism that constricts their spiritual and social lives, so they might gain an appreciation of metaphor and symbol and the ?sacramentality? of the world.
