Book excerpt: "The purpose of 'The sea and the honeycomb' is to provide examples of what has been done so far in Europe, America, and Asia with the poem of three or four lines. Epigrams have not been included. This book is interested in another sort of poem which tries, in the words of Juan Ramon Jiménez, to arrive at the greatest possible richness by the simplest possible means. The book contains English language poems, as well as poems translated from ancient and modern languages ... Significantly enlarged from the original Sixties Press publication, the book also includes foreign language texts, and an introductory essay by Robert Bly"--From back cover.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Judah Messer Leon's The Book of the Honeycomb's Flow, written in the second half of the fifteenth century, is a treatise on the art of rhetoric in which the classical rehtorical doctrine of the Greeks and Romas is applied to the Hebrew Bible. It is the earliest such work by a competent Hebrew scholar. Duscussing or alluding to a wide variety of theological, philosophical, political, legal, and psychological subjects, it is one of the most important books of early Renaissance humanism. As the indispensable basis of his annotated English translation, Isaac Rabinowitx has provided the first critical edition of the Hebrew text, drawing on an early manuscript, the first print edition of 1475/6, and other pertinent sources. Besides supplying paragraphing and punctuation, his Hebrew text includes references to all passages of Scripture cited for exposition or for illustration of rhetorical doctrine, apparatuses of the variant readings and of the book's implicit scriptural allusions and reminiscences, and other textual notes. The annotated translation—the first in any modern European language—includes full referneces to all Messer Leon's classical sources. The introduction to the entire work contains a detailed reconstruction of Messer Leon's life and a full discussion of the nature and intended purposes of The Book of the Honeycomb's Flow. The publication of the The Book of the Honeycomb's Flow will help scholars to appreciate more fully the importance of the vital Italian Jewish culture of the Renaissance.

Book excerpt: This revised and updated edition continues to provide a comprehensive introduction to the subject, exploring the world’s landforms from a broad systems perspective. It covers the basics of Earth surface forms and processes, while reflecting on the latest developments in the field. Fundamentals of Geomorphology begins with a consideration of the nature of geomorphology, including its relation to society, process and form, history, and geomorphic systems, and moves on to discuss: • Structure: structural landforms associated with plate tectonics and those associated with volcanoes, and folds, faults, and joints. • Process and form: landforms resulting from, or influenced by, the exogenic agencies of weathering, running water, flowing ice and meltwater, ground ice and frost, the wind, and the sea; landforms developed on limestone; extraterrestrial landforms; and landscape evolution, a discussion of ancient landforms. Fundamentals of Geomorphology provides a stimulating and innovative perspective on the key topics and debates within the field of geomorphology. Written in an accessible and lively manner, it includes guides to further reading, chapter summaries, and an extensive glossary of key terms. The book is also illustrated throughout with over 200 informative diagrams and attractive photographs, all in colour. It is supported by online resources for students and instructors.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of industrial engineering (IE) has a very wide scope, from production processes and automation to supply chain management, but the scope of IE techniques has expanded beyond the traditional domains of application, and is now relevant to areas that matter most to society at large. This book presents the proceedings of ICIEA 2023, the 10th International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Applications, held in Phuket, Thailand, from 4 to 6 April 2023. The conference was conducted in hybrid mode, with close to 100 delegates attending in person and about 50 participants attending online. A total of 272 submissions were received for the conference, of which 120 were accepted for presentation with 83 of those published here as full papers. These papers cover a wide range of topics within the scope of industrial and systems engineering, including but not limited to: supply chain and logistics; quality and reliability; advanced manufacturing; and production scheduling to ergonomics and man-machine systems interfaces. In particular, a significant number of papers are devoted to machine learning techniques and applications beyond the traditional manufacturing sector, to include healthcare, sustainability assessment, and other social issues. Offering an overview of recent research and novel applications, the book will be of interest to all those whose work involves the application of industrial engineering techniques.
