Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written in the 1840s and published here for the first time, Julia Ward Howe's novel about a hermaphrodite is unlike anything of its time--or, in truth, of our own. Narrated by Laurence, who is raised and lives as a man, is loved by men and women alike, and can respond to neither, this unconventional story explores the understanding "that fervent hearts must borrow the disguise of art, if they would win the right to express, in any outward form, the internal fire that consumes them." Laurence describes his repudiation by his family, his involvement with an attractive widow, his subsequent wanderings and eventual attachment to a sixteen-year-old boy, his own tutelage by a Roman nobleman and his sisters, and his ultimate reunion with his early love. His is a story unique in nineteenth-century American letters, at once a remarkable reflection of a largely hidden inner life and a richly imagined tale of coming of age at odds with one's culture. Howe wrote "The Hermaphrodite" when her own marriage was challenged by her husband's affection for another man--and when prevailing notions regarding a woman's appropriate role in patriarchal structures threatened Howe's intellectual and emotional survival. The novel allowed Howe, and will now allow her readers, to occupy a speculative realm otherwise inaccessible in her historical moment.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 10 Years Younger, launched in April 2004, was the first lifestyle series on British television to feature cosmetic surgery. Since then, increased acceptability, availability and affordability have prompted a massive rise in the number of cosmetic procedures carried out each year in the UK, with that number set to top a quarter of a million in 2007. It is now believed that 45% of women and 37% of men in the UK would consider cosmetic surgery. 10 Years Younger has undoubtedly influenced the public's perception of cosmetic surgery and here, in the 10 Years Younger Cosmetic Surgery Bible, Jan Stanek openly and honestly discusses the pros and cons of each procedure. All aspects of each process are discussed - what it involves, who should consider it, what will it solve, what it won't solve, the cost, the potential risks, the potential reactions and the length of recovery. There are even before and after photos to show you what can be achieved. So, if you're considering a face lift, a boob job, a tummy tuck, or even just a Botox injection, this is the book for you.

Written by two expert authors who have experience doing makeup for television, commmercials, and blockbuster films, readers will learn about beauty, time periods, black and white film, as well as cutting edge techniques such as air brusshing makeup for computer-generated movies, and makeup effects. High definition (HD) technology has revolutionized the techniques needed by makeup artists--you need to know more, have more talent, and be more detailed than ever before. Because HD emphasizes every detail on screen, it's essential for makeup artists to know how to achieve a desired "look" that fits the director's requirements. This book will help professional and aspiring makeup artists to hone their craft in both conventional and HD techniques.

Book excerpt: I was twenty-one years old when I wrote this book, and I decided to write this book because I felt like some people might feel like they were fighting lifes battles alone. I wanted people to know that theyre not alone and that people are there for them. I wanted to fill people in on what they couldnt see around them, and I also wanted to let people know that their voice is important and that they define their own voice but no one else can speak for them in all honesty. In this book, I talked about how humans are only humans, so they shouldn't be ashamed to cryman or woman. Crying doesn't make you weak; it means your human. Its actually worrisome if you dont cry.

When reading Abid, I hear echoes of both the Russell Simmons Def Poetry Jam and Rumi. Her poems are truly a monument to the region and one of the regions richer gifts of culture to the world. Each human composition is made of moments of deep contemplation, times of simple pleasure, or points where we find ourselves between a rock and hard place. These very moments are the stuff of life, and Emans work brings us into the midst of it and shows us the subtle, transformative power of philosophic observation. Sandra K. Book excerpt: The millions of fans of Dracula and Harry Potter consist of all ages and varied enthusiasm, ranging from a curious reader or leisure cinema observer to seriously devoted academic scholars. However, followers of each universe have been chiefly segregated &– rarely mingling apart from an occasional culture convention, dominated by Star Wars, Star Trek, and Marvel heroes' groupies. But Stoker and Rowling readers have a lot in common because Count Dracula and Lord Voldemort have much in common. These two internationally acclaimed bestselling novels possess a remarkable kinship.Prepare to be delightfully surprised to discover that the godfather of all vampires and the infamous dark wizard share a deep character bond that goes far beyond the title &‘monster.' Be intrigued to uncover what a coffin and a horcrux share or to dig further to unearth that the often-overlooked scars which Bram Stoker wrote of in Victorian England are just as significant as those described by J.K. Rowling in the modern era. Indeed, it cannot be mere coincidence that Dracula is born in 1897 and 100 years later, Harry is too.A Tale of Two Villains is a love letter to both sets of fans paying homage to two superb authors and their extraordinary respective works, setting both masterpieces on pedestals, side by side for the first time, exploring their similar themes, unique parallelism, and mystical symbolism. The author delves profoundly into the interesting characters, their traits, conflicts, and motivations, to show how literary art is born. This book is a must for any Stoker or Rowling fan. Calvin H. Cherry is the author of STOKER: Evolution of a Vampire and fantasy and horror scholar.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is my first attempt at writing a book like this but the 4th I have published. This book reflects the things I see, hear and at times just think. Most of all the lyrics written in this and previous books are hardly changed from the original text. I write lyrics very quickly once I have an idea, usually no more than 10 - 15 minutes. I have many influences musically and enjoy songwriters that tell a story, such as Bono(U2), Lennon, Dylan, Bowie and many others. I do not profess to anywhere near their league in fact a million miles away from them. I write to release myself from the everyday crap that goes on in the world and as a sense of peace to myself. This book is rather dark and naïve in its content and I was apprehensive whether to publish, but if you don't try, you don't know! So please enjoy.
