Book excerpt: “By employing a vivd bestiary of creature both mundane and monstrous, Nickerson crafts a fantastical series opener that leaves ample room for future installments.” —Publisher’s Weekly “Fast, funny, and weird in the best way! The Salamander Stone has the extremely messed up teen angst you’re looking for.”—Travis Baldree, New York Times, USA Today and ABA Indie best-selling author of Legends & Lattes Ellie Adair isn’t surprised when a vampire appears in the takeout window of her part-time job, and while she’s afraid of the flame salamander attacking her employer’s ice cream store, she’s come to expect these sudden monster attacks. They’ve been happening across the globe for nearly a year, to the point that local governments are beginning to fund towns that organize their own “monster-hunting” militias. But Ellie’s not concerned with the Beowulf Brigade’s newsletter or the push for vampires to integrate into society. She’s too busy searching for answers about her father's disappearance, her mother's battle with mental illness, her grandfather’s suddenly failing health, and the fact that—just weeks after turning sixteen—Ellie starts transforming into a lumbering, bloodthirsty beast. In a world where insurance companies offer supernatural creature coverage for monster attacks and restaurants offer hema, a blood substitute for vampires wanting to follow more sustainable diets, Ellie isn't sure which side she's on, but she knows that whatever is kidnapping teens from Errolton High School needs to be stopped. And maybe, with the help of her friends, her monstrous persona can make a difference. The Salamander Stone is a tale of monsters, teen angst, and one girl's journey to heal her estranged relationship with her family—and herself.

Book excerpt: Amber uncovers a conspiracy so earth-shattering it threatens the human race. She is forced to go on the run, and it seems that someone is after her on every corner-some for her power; some to make her their savior; others out of twisted love or simple lust. But the Salamander Stone attracts more than earthly evil. A demon is after her too, and what he wants is unspeakable.

Veering away from the long, meditative studies of Pilgrim at Tinker Creek or Holy the Firm, Annie Dillard explores and celebrates moments of spirituality, dipping into descriptions of encounters with flora and fauna, stars, and more, from Ecuador to Miami.

Book excerpt: Her kiss will shatter realms... Dragon shifter and artisan blacksmith Hadrian is determined to strengthen his fellow Pyr warriors in the battle against the Fae by forging them talons of steel. He won't be seduced by the sensual promise of a firestorm that has to be a spell—even to help a beautiful warrior escape the clutches of the Fae Queen. Rania is a swan-maiden and Fae assassin, who has made a deal with the Dark Queen to break the curse over her brothers. All she needs to do is kill Hadrian, but this dragon shifter won't die easily. It's more than dragon vitality that helps him survive her lethal kiss, but Rania refuses surrender to his potent touch for any price when so much hangs in the balance. But the Dark Queen's betrayal compels Rania to ally with the vital dragon shifter in a last-chance effort to save her brothers and herself. Can Hadrian unfurl the painful secrets of Rania's past to give them a future? Can Rania help Hadrian to realize the power of his own legacy to defeat the Fae? When barriers between realms are destroyed, can love conquer the obstacles between these destined mates—and create a new world for their unborn son? * * * The DragonFate Novels continue the story of Deborah's dragon shape shifting heroes called the Pyr. Each book is a romance in which a dragon shifter meets his destined mate—in DragonFate, those heroines have powers of their own. Maeve's Book of Beasts is a prequel to DragonFate that introduces both Maeve's evil plan to eliminate paranormal species from the world (including the Pyr) and the cast of characters assembling to defeat her. In it, you'll meet Sebastian, a vampire who has escaped Maeve and is building the team to destroy her, and Sylvia, the mortal librarian he chooses to hide the ancient volume stolen from Maeve. Sebastian gets more than he expects from Sylvia—never mind that Maeve wants her book back—and Sebastian's slow-burn romance with Sylvia will arc over the entire series. The other slow burn romance in this series features Mel, an immortal fae who needs to find true love to break the curse placed upon her. She's haunted by her late husband, Raymond, who betrayed her but wants to make it right. You can read Mel and Raymond's story, a romance that doesn't end happily and a retelling of a medieval French fairy tale, in Claire Delacroix's An Elegy for Melusine. The DragonFate series so far: 1. Maeve's Book of Beasts 2. Dragon's Kiss (dragon shifter Kristofer and Valkyrie Bree) 3. Dragon's Heart (dragon shifter Rhys and selkie Lila) 4. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For over 35 years I have searched books and the past trying to solve Alchemy! The magic of the Philosophers Stone. Turn lead to gold! A cure all medicine! The fountain of youth! Was it just wishful thinking, or is there a basis of fact? I soon learned the subject had lasted as a rumor, mythology, or perhaps just as an idea. Something I believed had to be there, something was overlooked. Now, it seems that the something had not been overlooked, instead was hidden from the masses for many reasons. That something will astound you, will surprise you yet you will know it is truth. Who would have thought that Genesis was really about the yearly cycle? That the process of making the stone is really about the understanding of the creation. Also that the stone is about how nature can and does handle matter. Now with art (man and nature), I found more can be done with matter and so perfect it. You will see that matter handled correctly is purified over time and within shape. That shape is a glass pyramid oven. You may know of it as 'the firmament.' This is the magic, and produces a substance that convinced man of God! You will see that this power of generation is the God of early man, and finding the purified matter led to several things. First the process of Genesis, though I am not sure what it originally was called. That process led to astrology, and the naming and defined understanding of those constellations passing overhead. Finally it led to a religion, which was that of Isis and Osiris. When understood you will see that those are the religions of today, and little has changed. You will then know why all of this was hidden from you! Lastly you will know the All and want to make this substance. You will understand that you're a part of, and maintained by this system. That we need to maintain it before we cause it to destroys us! This is then Alchemy understood, the enchanting power of transformation.
