Book Synopsis Role of Blood Flow in Atherogenesis by : Y. Yoshida
Download or read book Role of Blood Flow in Atherogenesis written by Y. Yoshida and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has long been recognized that atherosclerosis tends to develop in certain areas of the artery. Blood flow is thus considered to play an important role in such development. However, the direct mechanisms of the influence of blood flow on atherosclerosis are controversial. Recently, a number of active studies in this field have been carried out around the world. This volume consists of the contributions to a symposium held on the subject and offers a report of latest findings.

Book Synopsis Pathogenesis of Atherosclerosis by : A. Wayne Orr
Download or read book Pathogenesis of Atherosclerosis written by A. Wayne Orr and published by Biota Publishing. This book was released on 2014-07-01 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The circulatory system provides the tissues of the body with oxygen and nutrients for survival, allows for the dissemination of inflammatory cells, and clears metabolic waste from building up and damaging tissue. Atherosclerotic disease, the build-up of fat, inflammatory cells, and fibrotic tissue in the vessel wall, hinders this function, resulting in inadequate perfusion of the target tissue. Hypoxia, or lack of oxygen, rapidly results in cellular dysfunction that profoundly affects the functionality of the overall tissue. Atherosclerosis-associated tissue ischemia and hypoxia because of loss of blood flow underlies several significant disease pathologies including ischemic heart disease, stroke, and peripheral artery disease. In this eBook, we examine the process of atherosclerotic plaque formation both at the cellular level and the level of clinical presentation. Through this book, we hope to impart to the reader a better understanding of how vessel structure, environmental risk factors, and genetic predisposition contribute to atherosclerotic disease and how current and future therapies seek to circumvent the cellular processes contributing to plaque formation to reduce atherosclerotic plaque burden and clinical complications. Book Synopsis Dynamics of Arterial Flow by : Stewart Wolf
Download or read book Dynamics of Arterial Flow written by Stewart Wolf and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the edited transcript of the Second Topical Colloquium based on leads developed at the original conference on the artery and the process of arteriosclerosis (the Lindau Conference of 1970). The first follow-up colloquium on "The Smooth Muscle of the Artery" was held in Heidelberg in 1973. Planning for the present one was undertaken by the editors with Dr. C. Forbes Dewey, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts. The meeting itself was held June, 1976 at the Delaware Water Gap, Pennsy1vani~, under the joint sponsorship of Totts Gap Institute and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with financial support from the American Heart Association, the Office of Naval Research, and the Smith, Kline and French Company. The objective of the series of meetings, beginning at Lindau has been to examine from an interdisciplinary and international point of view the fundamental physiologic and pathophysiologic processes pertinent to the development of arteriosclerosis. This colloquium sought to examine critically the evidence relating hemodynamic forces to atherogenesis, to reconcile disparate findings and interpretations in so far as possible; and to make a synthesis of the present state of knowledge of the dynamics of arterial flow. Grateful acknowledgement is made for the valuable assistance of Joan Martin and Helen Goodell in the entire editorial process. The editors acknowledge with thanks the secretarial assistance of Moira Martin, Colleen Nagle, Cindy Carter and Pat Ide. Special thanks are due Joy Lowe who executed the entire final manuscript.
Book Synopsis Inflammation and Atherosclerosis by : Georg Wick
Download or read book Inflammation and Atherosclerosis written by Georg Wick and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-12-03 with total page 628 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been known for over 150 years that hallmarks of inflammation can be observed in the wall of atherosclerotic vessels. It was, however, not clear if this inflammation is the cause or the consequence of atherogenesis. More recently, it has become evident that inflammation mediated both by innate and adaptive immunity is instrumental even in the earliest stages of the development of atherosclerotic lesions, i.e., that it plays an important pathogenetic role. In this volume, international experts in the field discuss the pathogenetic, diagnostic, preventive and possible therapeutic relevance of inflammation in atherogenesis. This book is intended for researchers and physicians in the fields of vascular biology, immunology and atherosclerosis.
