Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first major revision of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory - a widely-used clinical personality instrument - was published in 1989. The study described in this book (based on the test results of over 500 patients) addresses the comparability of the new MMPI-2 to the earlier model among chronic pain patients, and provides preliminary research data on the performance of the revised test among the large chronic pain population. It concludes with suggestions for interpretative strategies in assessing chronic pain patients with the MMPI-2, and with recommendations for future research directions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The third edition of Psychiatric Care of the Medical Patient brings a classic reference text into the twenty-first century. It combines critical scholarship with the voice of expert clinicians who work at the interface of psychiatry with medical specialties. It is meant to be read for pleasure as well as consulted as a reference. The editors have worked with the authors to bring a consistent perspective to the book - one that sees the medical psychiatrist as an agent for bringing a more comprehensive perspective to medical care. Even seasoned and knowledgeable practitioners will find much that is new to them in this book. The volume covers topics in depth that other books in the field may not cover at all, such as the use of herbal and nutritional therapies for medical-psychiatric symptoms and syndromes, and the choice of questionnaires to supplement history-taking. It looks at old topics in a new way: The chapter on the physical examination applies psychometric considerations to the Babinski sign, describes the method and application of quantitative bedside olfactory testing, and discusses smartphone apps to improve the sensitivity of the examination. Psychiatric Care of the Medical Patient, 3rd Edition provides concepts and information to facilitate the dialogue between psychiatrists and general medical specialists - minimizing psychiatric jargon and speaking in the common language of caring and curious physicians.

Book excerpt: Four years after the introduction of the revised Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, the MMPI-2 is regarded throughout the world as a unique, invaluable instrument. Completely revised and updated, MMPI-2: Assessing Personality and Psychopathology, Second Edition encompasses all that has been learned about the original and revised tests. An interpretive strategy is presented and illustrated with several cases. A new section has been added concerning how feedback on MMPI-2 results should be presented to clients. The chapter on supplementary scales includes information about two new alcohol abuse scales and a marital distress scale. The book critically analyzes the use of the MMPI-2 with special groups, such as older adults, ethnic minorities, medical patients, correctional subjects, and subjects in nonclinical settings. An expanded chapter addresses the psychometric characteristics of the original MMPI and of the MMPI-2 and includes information concerning comparability of the two tests. Computerized use of the MMPI-2 is considered and a computerized interpretation is compared with a clinician-generated interpretation. The development of the MMPI-A, the adolescent version of the test, is presented along with a detailed approach to interpreting the results of this new test. This book is essential to students in personality assessment courses learning about the MMPI-2 and MMPI-A as well as to professionals who use these two tests in research and clinical work.

This book was released on 2014 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) and its revised version (MMPI-2) has generated a specific correlate literature associated with scale scores for college students and college counseling clients. This study aimed to establish correlates of the latest version of the MMPI, the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2-Restructured Form (MMPI-2-RF) using a selfreport checklist of psychological/ personal, interpersonal, health, and academic problems. This study utilized a college counseling center sample (N=129) that consisted of clients who had completed both the MMPI-2 and the Problem Checklist. The MMPI-2-RF scores were derived from MMPI-2 item responses. Biserial correlations were computed to establish correlates of MMPI-2-RF Scale scores using checklist items. A large number of significant and conceptually appropriate correlates were generated for the MMPI-2-RF scales. Upon examination, the correlates found in this study provided an expansion for interpretation of MMPI-2-RF scales for college counseling students. This study found broad measures of emotional distress produced relatively larger numbers of correlates with large effect sizes, Overall, the nature and direction of the significant correlates were consistent with the measured constructs. Applications, contributions, and future research directions are discussed.
