Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2007 in the subject Psychology - Work, Business, Organisational and Economic Psychology, University of Fribourg (Departement f r Psychologie), 6 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: The current paper investigates the relationship between Organizational Commitment, Organizational Identification and Organizational Citizenship Behavior. At the beginning, a short insight into the theoretical construct of these concepts is given to better understand them. Two empirical studies will support the idea that Organizational Commitment and Organizational Identification influence directly Organizational Citizenship Behavior. The findings of the first study show that the concepts of Organizational Commitment and Organizational Citizenship Behavior translate to the Nepalese context. Furthermore, the positive linkage of Organizational Citizenship Behavior components to affective and normative commitment is supported. The second study affirms as well the strong relationship between Organizational Identification and Organizational Citizenship Behavior. It also reveals the validity of the relationship over time and the applicability on the team level. Furthermore, the indirect influence of Organizational Identification on organizational criteria mediated through Organizational Citizenship Behavior is proven. The findings of these two studies reveal the importance of identification and commitment for an organization.

Book excerpt: Organizational support theory (Eisenberger, Huntington, Hutchison, & Sowa, 1986; Eisenberger & Stinglhamber, 2011; Kurtessis et al., 2015) suggests that employees form perceptions of the extent to which their organization values them and cares about their well-being (i.e., perceived organizational support, or POS). Despite an abundance of research on POS, little research has examined organizational support from a future-oriented perspective. Given the changing nature of today’s business environment and the increasing need for employees to plan for potential job transitions, I argue that researchers should similarly increase our emphasis on employees’ perceptions of the future of their relationship with the organization. In the present study, I introduce the concept of anticipated change in organizational support (ACOS), or employees’ expectation that the level of support from the organization will change for better or for worse in the future. Two of my hypotheses received support: employees who expected that the organization would increase its support in the future demonstrated greater affective organizational commitment over and above the effect of POS. Further, ACOS moderated the relationship between POS and affective commitment, although the nature of the interaction was different than I predicted. Specifically, the relationship between POS and commitment became stronger at high levels of ACOS. However, neither the main effect of ACOS nor the interaction of POS and ACOS significantly contributed to satisfaction or well-being. The results have theoretical implications for current conceptualizations of organizational support, as well as practical implications for how organizations may enhance employee commitment by promoting anticipated support.

Book excerpt: Researchers have identified employee affective commitment as a key indicator of variables that are of great interest to organizations (Mowday, Porter, & Steers, 1982). Teamwork behaviors have been identified as predictors of affective commitment (Meyer, Stanley, Herscovitch, & Topolnytsky, 2002). However, very few studies have examined the moderating effect organizational and supervisor support may have on these relationships. The purpose of this study was to examine the moderating effects of perceived organizational support and perceived supervisor support on the relationship between teamwork behaviors and affective commitment. Results of a survey administered to 3,926 employees in a medical device company revealed that both perceived organizational support and perceived supervisor support significantly moderated the relationship between teamwork behaviors and affective commitment, suggesting that employees who experience more cooperation, communication, and collaboration (teamwork behaviors) report higher levels of affective commitment when they feel their contributions are valued by their organizations and supervisors. It is suggested that organizations focus on increasing perceptions of organizational support and supervisor support because support moderates the relationship between teamwork behaviors and affective commitment.

Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2019 in the subject Art - Arts Management, grade: very good, Arba Minch University (Arba Minch university), language: English, abstract: This research aims to investigate the effect of perceived organizational support on employee organizational citizenship behavior in the case of academic staffs of Arba Minch University. For the sake of achieving the objectives of this study, the information gathered through questionnaire from 282 respondents were analyzed using statistical analysis. The respondents were selected using stratified sampling followed by a simple random sampling technique. The most important findings of this study is that perceived organizational support has a positive and significant effect on organizational citizenship behavior. Results revealed that there is a significant difference between male and female academic staffs towards exhibiting organizational citizenship behavior and insignificance difference found on dimensions of perceived organizational support. Moreover, there is a significant difference in the perception of supervisory support, procedural justice, career development opportunities, decision-making involvement and exhibition of organizational citizenship behavior based on education level. The result of the Pearson correlation coefficient analysis showed that perceived organizational support dimensions have a significant and positive relationship with organizational citizenship behavior. The results of multiple linear regression showed that the best predictor of organizational citizenship behavior had been supervisory support. Based on findings, recommendations to Arba Minch university management and suggestions for other researchers are forwarded. Keywords; perceived organizational support, organizational citizenship behavior

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today's constantly changing work environment is fraught with job uncertainty, frequent mergers and acquisitions, and a general breakdown of trust between employer and employee. More than ever, it is critical for managers to proactively shift away from devaluing employees as marginal capital to empowering them as human capital. Perceived organizational support-employees' perception of how much an organization values their contribution and cares about their well-being-mutually benefits both employees and their organizations and is integral to sustainable employer–employee relationships. Using organizational support theory and evidence gathered from hundreds of studies, Eisenberger and Stinglhamber demonstrate how perceived organizational support affects employees' well-being, the positivity of their orientation toward the organization and work, and behavioral outcomes favorable to the organization. The authors illustrate these findings with employee experiences and strategic approaches of major organizations such as Southwest Airlines, Wal-Mart, Costco, and Google. Organizational psychologists, management consultants, managers, and graduate students will obtain a clear understanding of perceived organizational support and the practical knowledge needed to foster its development and positive outcomes.

Book excerpt: Thesis (M.A.) from the year 2006 in the subject Psychology - Work, Business, Organisation, grade: 72, Aston University, language: English, abstract: This study examines the relationship between organizational commitment and citizenship behaviours, counterproductive work behaviours and turnover intentions. It also investigates the mediation effect of exhaustion on these relationships. Data were obtained from 87 workers of a health care Charity Trust based in the UK. Hierarchical regression analysis indicated that organizational commitment was related to counterproductive work behaviours and turnover intentions but not to citizenship behaviours. Moreover, exhaustion partially mediated the organizational commitment and turnover intentions relationship. However it is discussed that this mediation is not critical as the effects of exhaustion are overshadow by those of commitment.
