Scores on standardized assessments in English II, Biology, and Algebra I were not statistically different for 11th graders who have low parental involvement in relations to those who have high parental involvement. Descriptive statistics and Independent samples t test were used to analyze data.

A sample of sixth grade students and their parents from a rural middle school was used to survey the perception of parents' involvement in students' schooling. The hypothesis investigated in this study is that parents of children who are more involved in their education do better in school than children with parents who are less involved. Pearson r correlations between grade point averages and averages of student and parent involvement ratings at school, at home, personally, and cognitively show that general parent involvement and exposing the student to cognitively rich experiences and materials are positively linked to grade point averages. Examination of background variables indicate that the largest percentage of high achievers are girls with more educated mothers living in 2-parent biological families, and the largest percentage of low achievers are boys with less educated mothers living in single-parent families.

The study groups selected for this study were the 6th and 7th grade classes. The grade point average for the school year and the level of parental involvement for each student were tracked through the 2014-2015 school year. Using this data, a correlation coefficient was calculated to determine if there was a significant relationship between the variables. The results indicated that there was a direct significant relationship between parental involvement and student achievement. Increased parental involvement positively affects student achievement.
