Book Synopsis How Tax Policy and Incentives Affect Foreign Direct Investment by : Jacques Morisset
Download or read book How Tax Policy and Incentives Affect Foreign Direct Investment written by Jacques Morisset and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2000 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tax incentives neither make up for serious deficiencies in a country's investment environment nor generate the desired externalities. But when other factors, such as infrastructure, transport costs, and political and economic stability are more or less equal, the taxes in one location may have a significant effect on investors' choices. This effect varies, however, depending on the tax instrument used, the characteristics of the multinational company, and the relationship between the tax systems of the home and recipient countries.
Book Synopsis Foreign Direct Investment in South Asia by : Pravakar Sahoo
Download or read book Foreign Direct Investment in South Asia written by Pravakar Sahoo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-01 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the 1990s, the governments of South Asian countries acted as ‘facilitators’ to attract FDI. As a result, the inflow of FDI increased. However, to become an attractive FDI destination as China, Singapore, or Brazil, South Asia has to improve the local conditions of doing business. This book, based on research that blends theory, empirical evidence, and policy, asks and attempts to answer a few core questions relevant to FDI policy in South Asian countries: Which major reforms have succeeded? What are the factors that influence FDI inflows? What has been the impact of FDI on macroeconomic performance? Which policy priorities/reforms needed to boost FDI are pending? These questions and answers should interest policy makers, academics, and all those interested in FDI in the South Asian region and in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
Book Synopsis The Economics of Foreign Direct Investment Incentives by : Magnus Blomström
Download or read book The Economics of Foreign Direct Investment Incentives written by Magnus Blomström and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper suggests that the use of investment incentives focusing exclusively on foreign firms, although motivated in some cases from a theoretical point of view, is generally not an efficient way to raise national welfare. The main reason is that the strongest theoretical motive for financial subsidies to inward FDI spillovers of foreign technology and skills to local industry is not an automatic consequence of foreign investment. The potential spillover benefits are realized only if local firms have the ability and motivation to invest in absorbing foreign technologies and skills. To motivate subsidization of foreign investment, it is therefore necessary, at the same time, to support learning and investment in local firms as well.
Book Synopsis Integration Through Foreign Direct Investment by : Gábor Hunya
Download or read book Integration Through Foreign Direct Investment written by Gábor Hunya and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2000 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hunya (research economist at The Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies) explores whether foreign direct investment can contribute to the competitiveness of industries in central Europe and to narrowing the gap between these transition economies and countries within the European Union. Examining empirical data from the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, and Slovenia, he argues that foreign investment enterprises have higher allocative efficiency, promote macro- and microeconomic restructuring, and foster the restructuring of the manufacturing sector in accordance with the host countries' comparative advantages. Some negative factors are explored, but Hunya argues that, on the whole, foreign direct investment leads to greater competitiveness. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
