Book excerpt: The epic fantasy series for those that enjoy Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Dungeons and Dragons, and Game of Thrones. Four normal modern day teenagers are plunged into a world they thought only existed in novels and film. They are whisked away to a magical land where dragons roam the skies, orcs and hobgoblins terrorize weary travelers, dark magic consumes kingdoms, and where unicorns prance through the forest. It is a world where man is just one race, joining other races such as elves, trolls, dwarves, changelings, and the dreaded creatures who steal the night. This is not a typical "dungeons and dragons" world, for this world follows the adventures of these wayward teens into the unknown as we watch the world unfold in front of their (and our) eyes. It was a world of magic, of enchantment, of adventure and of death. THIS ISSUE: "Between a Rock and a Hard Place!" - The Cave of Illusions reveals itself and Alex gets some much needed training in using his magic skills by Delora. The group of travelers manage to get out of the cave after a battle but now find themselves in another pitfall, this time a Dragon. But the dragons were thought to be myths, even in the Realm. A Caliber Comics release.

Did you know that Queen Elizabeth I, alarmed at the growing black population, attempted to expel them? Find out what she did and how this impacted the lives of black people in her realm. Discover how the increasing numbers of enslaved Africans survived during the 17th century, and how they resisted slavery. For example, do you know the name of the person on the front cover? Learn about her resistance against slavery and the resistance of other Africans in England and the British colonies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “An excellent work that adds to the history of the Normandy Campaign. It also gives the armchair historian points to ponder.” —A Wargamers Needful Things South of the Norman city of Caen, the twin features of the Verrières and Bourguebus ridges were key stepping stones for the British Second Army in late July 1944—taking them was crucial if it was to be successful in its attempt to break out of the Normandy bridgehead. To capture this vital ground, Allied forces would have to defeat arguably the strongest German armored formation in Normandy: the I. SS-Panzerkorps “Leibstandarte.” The resulting battles of late July and early August 1944 saw powerful German defensive counterattacks south of Caen inflict tremendous casualties, regain lost ground, and at times defeat Anglo-Canadian operations in detail. Viewed by the German leadership as militarily critical, the majority of its armored assets were deployed to dominate this excellent tank country east of the Orne river. These defeats and the experience of meeting an enemy with near-equal resources exposed a flawed Anglo-Canadian offensive tactical doctrine that was overly dependent on the supremacy of its artillery forces. Furthermore, weaknesses in Allied tank technology inhibited their armored forces from fighting a decisive armored battle, forcing Anglo-Canadian infantry and artillery forces to further rely on First World War “Bite and Hold” tactics, massively supported by artillery. Confronted with the full force of the Panzerwaffe, Anglo-Canadian doctrine at times floundered. In response, the Royal Artillery and Royal Canadian Artillery units pummeled the German tankers and grenadiers, but despite their best efforts, ground could not be captured by concentrated artillery fire alone. This is a detailed account of the success of I. SS-Panzerkorps’ defensive operations, aimed at holding the Vèrrieres-Bourgebus ridges in late July 1944.

Book excerpt: This commentary examines 4 Maccabees as a contribution to the ongoing reformulation of Jewish identity and practice in the Greek-speaking Diaspora. It analyzes the Jewish author’s interaction with, and facility in, Greek rhetorical conventions, ethical philosophy, and literary culture, giving attention also to his use and interpretation of texts and traditions from the Jewish Scriptures and other Hellenistic Jewish writings. The commentary exhibits the author’s skillful weaving together of all these resources to create a text that interprets the Torah-observant life as the fullest embodiment of the best Greek ethical ideals. A distinctive feature is the examination of how the experience of reading 4 Maccabees in Codex Sinaiticus differs from the experience of reading the eclectic text.

Book excerpt: THE APOCALYPSE (revelation) of the APOCALYPSE (revelation) By: Chaplain Gene Miles “I dare say that I learned more about the Bible from this one than any other book I have had the privilege to work on thus far. Thank you for allowing me to take part in the process.” - Anthony Duhamel, Book Editor THE APOCALYPSE (revelation) of the APOCALYPSE (revelation) will explain how to read Bible prophecies. In this inspiring work, Chaplain Gene Miles reveals the symbolic or parable language in the Bible and interprets the book of Revelation using these symbols. The interpretations garnered from this book are different than others of its kind in that it does not indicate great physical catastrophe but a great spiritual confrontation and persecution of the Christians. Miles provides this book as a means to encourage Christians to prepare themselves for what is coming, and to hopefully find peace when the end arrives.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1976, Nobles and the Noble Life, 1295-1500 offers a rounded picture of aristocratic life in England from the time Edward I began to call his great councillors together in ‘House of Lords’ through to the end of the Middle Ages. Professor Rosenthal’s treatment of the aristocracy takes full note of political and economic as well as personal aspects of nobility including the importance of status and the quest for security. He argues that in order to understand the nobility fully the student should consider it in the context of more modern views of elite groups and class structures. This book will be of interest to students of history primarily but also achieve a wider readership among academics more concerned with historical or political sociology than with medieval studies in their strictest sense.
