This book was released on 2018-08-24 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This superb Bible commentary by Christian teacher A. W. Pink narrates the thirteenth chapter of the Gospel of Matthew, identifying and discussing the prophecy within these words. An engaging and thorough examination of its New Testament subject, A. W. Pink deftly navigates the parables and presents a convincing narrative. Supporting his viewpoint with quotations from other Biblical books, a picture forms of Matthew 13 as a text of immense meaning and spiritual significance for believers in Christ's gospel and the ultimate destiny of all Christians. The author's interpretation of the scripture is thought-provoking and refreshingly coherent throughout. Noted for his unique personality and gifts as a Biblical scholar, Arthur W. Pink composed numerous Bible analyses and other Christian texts. He spent most of his lifetime as an obscure teacher, who energetically wrote on subjects of faith. Following his death in 1952, a wellspring of interest and appreciation brought Pink posthumous prominence.

Book excerpt: The Prophetic Parables of Matthew 13 is a message of meditation based on the Bible and written by Arthur Walkington Pink (1 April 1886 – 15 July 1952) was an English Bible teacher who sparked a renewed interest in the exposition of Calvinism or Reformed Theology. Little known in his own lifetime, Pink became "one of the most influential evangelical authors in the second half of the twentieth century." Arthur Walkington Pink was born in Nottingham, England, to a corn merchant, a devout non-conformist of uncertain denomination, though probably a Congregationalist. Otherwise, almost nothing is known of Pink's childhood or education except that he had some ability and training in music. As a young man, Pink joined the Theosophical Society and apparently rose to enough prominence within its ranks that Annie Besant, its head, offered to admit him to its leadership circle.[4] In 1908 he renounced Theosophy for evangelical Christianity. Desiring to become a minister but unwilling to attend a liberal theological college in England, Pink very briefly studied at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago in 1910 before taking the pastorate of the Congregational church in Silverton, Colorado. In 1912 Pink left Silverton, probably for California, and then took a joint pastorate of churches in rural Burkesville and Albany, Kentucky. In 1916, he married Vera E. Russell (1893–1962), who had been reared in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Pink's next pastorate seems to have been in Scottsville. Then the newlyweds moved in 1917 to Spartanburg, South Carolina, where Pink became pastor of Northside Baptist Church. By this time Pink had become acquainted with prominent dispensationalist Fundamentalists, such as Harry Ironside and Arno C. Gaebelein, and his first two books, published in 1917 and 1918, were in agreement with that theological position. Yet Pink's views were changing, and during these years he also wrote the first edition of The Sovereignty of God (1918), which argued that God did not love sinners and had deliberately created "unto damnation" those who would not accept Christ. Whether because of his Calvinistic views, his nearly incredible studiousness, his weakened health, or his lack of sociability, Pink left Spartanburg in 1919 believing that God would "have me give myself to writing." But Pink then seems next to have taught the Bible with some success in California for a tent evangelist named Thompson while continuing his intense study of Puritan writings.

Book excerpt: Matthew chapter 13 is key to correctly understanding the specific time frame for the Second Coming and establishment of Messiah's Kingdom on earth and how the course of the present age will unfold and progress from the first coming of Christ until His return. Failure to properly understand these parables of Matthew 13 results in a failure to understand all the rest of the parables Jesus spoke after them as He so indicated in Luke 4:13. Therefore it behooves every Bible believing Christian to take serious study of the unfolding prophetic events of the present age as symbolized in the eight parables of Matthew 13. This simple exposition is a humble effort to help the Bible student and reader gain a better appreciation and understanding of this chapter as it pertains to those living in the present age as these prophetic parables are unfolding and being fulfilled right before our very eyes!

Book excerpt: Matthew 13 is the thirteenth chapter in the Gospel of Matthew in the New Testament section of the Christian Bible. Centering on the Lord's teachings on the "Kingdom of Heaven", the author humbly explores the subject of Prophecy. The seven Matthew 13's parables are divided into four and three- the first four were spoken to the multitude on the seashore, the last three to the disciples inside the house. Pink suggests the first four give us the external view in the history of Christendom, while the last three portray that which is more internal and spiritual. In this book the reader of will find thorough and reliable biblical scholarship on a subject that attracts much conjecture and speculation.

Book excerpt: As the title suggests, this book is a manual for Christian discipleship. This is not just the author's choice of title for this book but what is clearly the Lord Jesus' purpose for His eight parables in Matthew 13. When we look closely at these parables, we will see a pattern emerge, where they take the reader from receiving the Word of God and becoming rooted in it, to becoming a fruitful sower with the responsibility of feeding members of God's household. That means it is relevant for both the new Christian and also those in positions of responsibility in church leadership who are called to disciple others. Ultimately all Christians are called to disciple others and therefore it applies to all who are seeking to live in obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ. The progression of revelation from parable to parable is what I believe lays the groundwork for what is the big picture of Christian discipleship and Jesus' teaching on salvation. Evangelical Christianity's failure to unlock these parables has led to a lack of cohesiveness in discipleship teaching and salvation and the result is a dysfunctional church that fails in shining forth the light of God. My hope is that this book will be a step forward for the church to better understand Jesus' teaching as revealed in the Matthew 13 parables, leading to a deepening of its roots in the Word and will of God. It is only this that will distinguish the church from the world, allowing its light to shine forth like a beacon in the night, giving hope for all those seeking to find their way.

Book excerpt: The Mystery Parables, as taught by Christ and recorded by Matthew, reveal the evolution of Christendom through the course of its history, and clearly mark the change and movement of the Church from one age to another. What Jesus is revealing in the Mystery Parables is not a picture of the true Church of Christ per se, but a glimpse of professing Christianity during the interval of time between His first and second comings to earth. In time the lowly upper room was forsaken, Biblical truths were corrupted with leaven, and the little body of faithful believers became lost in a great multitude of unbelievers, as birds of every variety found accommodation in the branches of the mushrooming tree of Christendom.

The parables recorded in the Gospels are central for an understanding of Jesus and his ministry. Yet the parables are more than simple stories; they present a number of obstacles to contemporary readers hoping to fully grasp their meaning. In this volume, thirteen New Testament scholars provide the background necessary to understand the original context and meaning of Jesus' parables as well as their modern applications, all in a manner easily accessible to general readers. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the third volume of Historical Phases of Prophetic Teaching, the author, Evelyn Theresa Watson, introduces an innovative way to research the life and time of Jesus Christ. She presents his gospel message in chapter verse subdivisions with descriptive headings that denote a statutory code of ethics in a systematic or set discourse of preceptive prophecy. Each chapter title specifies the parabolic message found within the text of THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO ST. MATTHEW. For example: Chapter 8 Mortal Deformity Healed, Chapter 9 Mortal Defamation Healed, Chapter 10 Mortal Deficiency Healed. The author has endeavored to present the manner of Jesus' teaching and preaching in a way that enables the reader to follow his example in overcoming the world's belief in the temptations of physicality, immorality, and materiality. Her mission is to prove the infallibility of the mortal word within the immortal Word of God as exemplified in Jesus' spiritual understanding of the Christ.

How did his concept differ from those of his contemporaries, and how does it still pose some stiff challenges for twenty-first-century Christians? Old and New contributes to the study of Jesus' parables as the first comprehensive analysis of the seven kingdom parables assembled in Matthew 13 in a single volume. Martin Emmrich argues that the placement, content, and arrangement of the chapter are highly significant in terms of the overall shape of Matthew's Gospel, as well as offering a timeless witness of Jesus' notion of the coming of his reign. Old and New features some unique exegetical details along with sweeping theological vistas, all of it carefully balanced with edifying illustrations and examples. The work not only deepens the reader's appreciation of the text, but also provides ample incentives for soul-searching reflection.
