While he initially served as a junior member among the Chaldean wise men, circumstances would quickly lift him to become a governor in the land. In this role he became a guardian of the exiled Jews for over 70 years. As a prophet Jehovah showed him some of the most impressive and detailed visions recorded in all of scripture. A number of the prophecies give such precise predictions that skeptics such the ancient Porphyry (300 A.D.) objected that the writings could only be historical accounts recorded after the fact, not actual visions of the future.
