Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Prophecies of Isaiah, Vol. 2 of 2: A New Translation With Commentary and Appendices The present volume supplies in a manner the key to its predecessor, and the author would fain bespeak for the series of essays which it contains a specially patient and candid perusal. They relate to subjects as well theological as critical; it is impossible to keep exegesis and criticism entirely apart from theology. There are points in the study of Old Testament history and literature at which the theological or anti-theological bias of the critic materially affects his results. The fault of English students generally has been that they allow too much play to this bias, and of orthodox students in particular that they unduly restrict the field of philological inquiry. It is a fault, no doubt, which can be explained and excused from the history of English theology, but it is one which urgently needs rectifying, and the present work is a conscientious endeavour to promote this object. Book Synopsis The Way of the LORD in the Book of Isaiah by : Bo H. Lim
Download or read book The Way of the LORD in the Book of Isaiah written by Bo H. Lim and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2010-05-13 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the "way of the LORD" in the book of Isaiah? Many scholars have adopted Walter Zimmerli's proposal that the "way" in Second Isaiah is a literal and physical highway extending from Babylon to Jerusalem only to be reinterpreted as a spiritual, metaphorical, and pious way of living in Third Isaiah. This book will properly define each mention of the "way" in Isaiah as well as provide a coherent interpretation of this theme's theological significance within the book. The way of the LORD is initially conceived of in the 1st half of the book as a highway leading to Zion common to both the dispersed Israelites as well as the nations. In Isaiah, Chs 34-35 provide a paradigm of what this way will entail and its theological significance.
