Book Synopsis Projectors and Projection Methods by : Aurél Galántai
Download or read book Projectors and Projection Methods written by Aurél Galántai and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-11 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The projectors are considered as simple but important type of matrices and operators. Their basic theory can be found in many books, among which Hal mas [177], [178] are of particular significance. The projectors or projections became an active research area in the last two decades due to ideas generated from linear algebra, statistics and various areas of algorithmic mathematics. There has also grown up a great and increasing number of projection meth ods for different purposes. The aim of this book is to give a unified survey on projectors and projection methods including the most recent results. The words projector, projection and idempotent are used as synonyms, although the word projection is more common. We assume that the reader is familiar with linear algebra and mathemati cal analysis at a bachelor level. The first chapter includes supplements from linear algebra and matrix analysis that are not incorporated in the standard courses. The second and the last chapter include the theory of projectors. Four chapters are devoted to projection methods for solving linear and non linear systems of algebraic equations and convex optimization problems.
Book Synopsis Alternating Projection Methods by : Ren Escalante
Download or read book Alternating Projection Methods written by Ren Escalante and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes and analyzes all available alternating projection methods for solving the general problem of finding a point in the intersection of several given sets belonging to a Hilbert space. For each method the authors describe and analyze convergence, speed of convergence, acceleration techniques, stopping criteria, and applications. Different types of algorithms and applications are studied for subspaces, linear varieties, and general convex sets. The authors also unify these algorithms into a common theoretical framework. The book provides readers with the theoretical and practical aspects of the most relevant alternating projection methods in a single accessible source; it gives several acceleration techniques for every method it presents and analyzes, including schemes that cannot be found in other books; and it provides full descriptions of several important mathematical problems and specific applications for which the alternating projection methods represent an efficient option including examples and problems that illustrate this material.
Book Synopsis Process Control and Management by : P.L. Lee
Download or read book Process Control and Management written by P.L. Lee and published by Springer. This book was released on 1998 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to provide a balanced introduction to process control and management, aimed at the general process engineer. Rapid changes have occurred in process control over the past decade, mainly because of the deployment of robust and effective digital control equipment, and the development of the models which underpin the area. Historically, process control was seen as simply the maintenance of particular process variables at appropriate setpoints. This very narrow view has been superseded by the view that process control involves the regulation of any given process, in the context of a complete processing plant, to maximise the economic return from the plant. This wider definition brings into play a range of control regimes, from basic regulatory control, through advanced regulatory control, to complex process management. The organization of the book reflects this hierarchy, and is thus split into 3 parts, covering basic regulatory control, advanced process control and finally process management. The book is completed by the inclusion of several useful appendices, covering mathematical modelling, process optimisation and simulation.

Book Synopsis Contact Force Models for Multibody Dynamics by : Paulo Flores
Download or read book Contact Force Models for Multibody Dynamics written by Paulo Flores and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-03-15 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyzes several compliant contact force models within the context of multibody dynamics, while also revisiting the main issues associated with fundamental contact mechanics. In particular, it presents various contact force models, from linear to nonlinear, from purely elastic to dissipative, and describes their parameters. Addressing the different numerical methods and algorithms for contact problems in multibody systems, the book describes the gross motion of multibody systems by using a two-dimensional formulation based on the absolute coordinates and employs different contact models to represent contact-impact events. Results for selected planar multibody mechanical systems are presented and utilized to discuss the main assumptions and procedures adopted throughout this work. The material provided here indicates that the prediction of the dynamic behavior of mechanical systems involving contact-impact strongly depends on the choice of contact force model. In short, the book provides a comprehensive resource for the multibody dynamics community and beyond on modeling contact forces and the dynamics of mechanical systems undergoing contact-impact events.

Book Synopsis Nonlinear Model Predictive Control by : Frank Allgöwer
Download or read book Nonlinear Model Predictive Control written by Frank Allgöwer and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past decade model predictive control (MPC), also referred to as receding horizon control or moving horizon control, has become the preferred control strategy for quite a number of industrial processes. There have been many significant advances in this area over the past years, one of the most important ones being its extension to nonlinear systems. This book gives an up-to-date assessment of the current state of the art in the new field of nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC). The main topic areas that appear to be of central importance for NMPC are covered, namely receding horizon control theory, modeling for NMPC, computational aspects of on-line optimization and application issues. The book consists of selected papers presented at the International Symposium on Nonlinear Model Predictive Control – Assessment and Future Directions, which took place from June 3 to 5, 1998, in Ascona, Switzerland. The book is geared towards researchers and practitioners in the area of control engineering and control theory. It is also suited for postgraduate students as the book contains several overview articles that give a tutorial introduction into the various aspects of nonlinear model predictive control, including systems theory, computations, modeling and applications.
