Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bank Liquidity Creation and Financial Crises delivers a consistent, logical presentation of bank liquidity creation and addresses questions of research and policy interest that can be easily understood by readers with no advanced or specialized industry knowledge. Authors Allen Berger and Christa Bouwman examine ways to measure bank liquidity creation, how much liquidity banks create in different countries, the effects of monetary policy (including interest rate policy, lender of last resort, and quantitative easing), the effects of capital, the effects of regulatory interventions, the effects of bailouts, and much more. They also analyze bank liquidity creation in the US over the past three decades during both normal times and financial crises. Narrowing the gap between the "academic world" (focused on theories) and the "practitioner world" (dedicated to solving real-world problems), this book is a helpful new tool for evaluating a bank’s performance over time and comparing it to its peer group. Explains that bank liquidity creation is a more comprehensive measure of a bank’s output than traditional measures and can also be used to measure bank liquidity Describes how high levels of bank liquidity creation may cause or predict future financial crises Addresses questions of research and policy interest related to bank liquidity creation around the world and provides links to websites with data and other materials to address these questions Includes such hot-button topics as the effects of monetary policy (including interest rate policy, lender of last resort, and quantitative easing), the effects of capital, the effects of regulatory interventions, and the effects of bailouts

Book Synopsis Bank Funding Structures and Risk by : Mr.Francisco F. Vazquez
Download or read book Bank Funding Structures and Risk written by Mr.Francisco F. Vazquez and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2012-01-01 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper analyzes the evolution of bank funding structures in the run up to the global financial crisis and studies the implications for financial stability, exploiting a bank-level dataset that covers about 11,000 banks in the U.S. and Europe during 2001?09. The results show that banks with weaker structural liquidity and higher leverage in the pre-crisis period were more likely to fail afterward. The likelihood of bank failure also increases with bank risk-taking. In the cross-section, the smaller domestically-oriented banks were relatively more vulnerable to liquidity risk, while the large cross-border banks were more susceptible to solvency risk due to excessive leverage. The results support the proposed Basel III regulations on structural liquidity and leverage, but suggest that emphasis should be placed on the latter, particularly for the systemically-important institutions. Macroeconomic and monetary conditions are also shown to be related with the likelihood of bank failure, providing a case for the introduction of a macro-prudential approach to banking regulation.
Book Synopsis The Effect of Bank Liquidity Problem on Financing the Economic Development by : Mohamed Naguib HASSANEIN
Download or read book The Effect of Bank Liquidity Problem on Financing the Economic Development written by Mohamed Naguib HASSANEIN and published by . This book was released on 2019-10-03 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In general, the distribution made by the commercial banks for their resources to the various aspects of usage, is governed by two considerations:The first consideration is the profitability, as when the commercial banks take the form of special projects, they aim from the conduct of their business to make profits for their owners and shareholders. The commercial banks get their interests from the benefits they obtain as a return for their loans and investments. The achievement of profit remains a point of consideration for the single bank, even if the banking system is composed of a number of banks which compete with each other in conducting the ordinary banking business, as although the achievement of the profits is not the goal of the banking system in its entirety, the ability of the single bank to make profits is inevitably under consideration by the authorities governing the banks in the field of assessing its efficiency in practicing the banking activity, compared to the other banks. The profitability is not the only consideration that governs the banks in selecting their assets and directing their policy, as there is the liquidity consideration, which is very important. It is the fundamental problem in the management of commercial banks.the book includes the management of liquidity in deposit banks , and the impact of the liquidity problem on the financing of economic development .the book also includes a solution that serves the interest of the national economy as well as the interest of the bank

Book Synopsis The Incomplete European Market for Financial Services by : Paolo Cecchini
Download or read book The Incomplete European Market for Financial Services written by Paolo Cecchini and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003-02-03 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The incomplete European market for financial services, the obstacles to its integration and the potential benefits from more integration are subject of this book which is largely focussing on retail markets. The analysis can be regarded as a modernised follow-up to the financial market part of the famous 1988 Cecchini Report "The cost of non Europe". Even in the Euro age, retail financial markets in the EU are heavily fragmented and the consumers pay a large price for this fragmentation. This also weakens the growth perspective of EU and its international role. Explanations originate both from natural and policy-induced factors. Priorities for future policies are the dismantling of tax discriminations and further harmonisation in consumer protection and financial supervision.

Book Synopsis Liquidity Management in Nigeria by : Ademola Ariyo
Download or read book Liquidity Management in Nigeria written by Ademola Ariyo and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A solid and stable financial sector is essential to any functioning national economy and to ensuring balanced liquidity within the economy. Appropriate liquidity management is a de facto condition of price and foreign exchange control, stability, and economic growth. Despite establishing regulatory agencies and monetary policies, Nigeria has actually been suffering excess liquidity for a period of some time. There is a basic knowledge gap in the causes and nature of this feature of the economy, and the likely institutional deficiencies. Most seriously, there is severe lack of reliable national economic data and statistics, a problem that is hampering all aspects of economic planning and growth. This book aims to fill these gaps.

Download or read book Output Measurement in the Service Sectors written by Zvi Griliches and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2008-04-15 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is the fall in overall productivity growth in the United States and other developed countries related to the rising share of the service sectors in the economy? Since services represent well over half of the U.S. gross national product, it is also important to ask whether these sectors have had a slow rate of growth, as this would act as a major drag on the productivity growth of the overall economy and on its competitive performance. In this timely volume, leading experts from government and academia argue that faulty statistics have prevented a clear understanding of these issues.
