All linen used by the Queen is of the finest and best, the table linen being really magnificent. Many of the designs are repetitions of those used fifty or sixty years ago, and in most the insignia of the Garter, the Royal Arms, or the national emblems of Great Britain appear. All the linen used in the Palaces is gone through every year with the greatest care, and every piece that shows even the faintest sign of wear is put aside for presentation to hospitals and charitable institutions as "cast linen." Of dinner services there is a great variety. Many of them are very valuable and of marvellous beauty, others again are merely quaint.
