Book excerpt: A 5-session journey to discover what it really means to be “saved.” For Christians, perhaps the deepest expression of what we’re waiting for is found in the phrase “eternal life.” But what is eter-nal life? Why do we want it? And how do we know if we have it? In the Eternity Is Now in Session Participant’s Guide, bestselling author John Ortberg takes you on a radical journey of rediscovery, dispelling the myth that eternal life is something way out in outer space that we can only hope to experience after we die. Instead, John unpacks the reality that the moment we trust Christ, we are initiated into “eternal living” with God as a here-and-now reality, one that will continue beyond our life on this earth. We can truly know God, experiencing His presence, favor, and resurrection power right here on this earth—in the details, tasks, and challenges of daily, ordinary life. And as we begin to know God this way, we’ll realize each moment of our lives is a vehicle to the eternity we’ve been longing for all along. Note: This is a companion piece to the Eternity Is Now in Session DVD Experience (9781496431684) and John Ortberg’s book Eternity Is Now in Session (9781496431646).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mankind has pondered the existence of life beyond death for centuries. Religions propose a variety of interesting but differing beliefs. So what does actually happen? Initially, science assumed it was some kind of neurological process sparking memory fragments at the moment of death. Having studied thousands of firsthand experiences, science now finds undeniable credibility and fascinating patterns of details that cannot be easily dismissed. These witnesses are from various cultures and countries around the world—yet they report the same types of visual, auditory, and sensory details. People, blind since birth, are seeing and testifying to the same sights that sighted people are also reporting. Preschool children are claiming the same experiences as mature, educated, worldly individuals. Atheists are stunned into becoming devoted to God. What is going on? Author John Carpenter returns with his third book, providing the reader with a breath-taking and inspirational journey through three realms of the afterlife. Instead of recounting hundreds of individual tales as in other books, he constructs a unique experience by orchestrating one composite journey, illustrated by hundreds of firsthand witnesses. Crafting the fascinating pieces of their testimonies into a masterful flowing collection creates an unforgettable journey for the reader. Masterminding this jigsaw puzzle of credible experiences takes the reader where no other book has gone before! But it can be intense—in its joy, love, and beauty—or its nightmarish and dark terrors. Be not afraid. Learn the truth of what people are reporting so that you can navigate your own spiritual journey wisely toward your future place in eternity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Swiss spiritual writer and mystic explores the various and wonderful "gates into eternal life" which God's grace has placed in our earthly life to help us get to Heaven. These "gates" include the Sacraments, the Church's calendar, Faith, Prayer and Holy Scripture. Adrienne's poetic and profound insights can reawaken our sense of the nearness of God, of his immense love and mercy, of his eternity and his great desire to bring to us to be with him there forever. "When the Son on the Cross promises paradise in his company to the good thief, when he promises the future feast in Heaven to the Apostles, when he speaks of the kingdom of the Father, he is always pointing toward eternity. However brief and close to the earth his words sound, they echo throughout infinite eternity and permeate the faith of his followers with their eternal content. He knows what he speaks of, what he brings with him and what he promises; and he can convey it to those who know it not. The very words he uses are designed to awaken in them a new sense: the sense of the eternal." - Adrienne von Speyr

Book excerpt: Embark on a transformative journey through the heartfelt reflections of a speaker whose experiences stretch from the mundane to the miraculous, from earthly challenges to heavenly revelations. "Edges of Eternity: Navigating the Divine" is a compelling narrative that weaves together personal anecdotes, spiritual insights, and the promise of the supernatural with an unwavering faith in God's imminent wonders. As the speaker shares tales of everyday struggles, from braving cold walks to enduring dental procedures, they lay the groundwork for recognizing joy in service and the power of laughter amidst pain. The narrative then ascends into the extraordinary, exploring the speaker's profound encounters with God's movement and miraculous interventions — from dead batteries that lead to midnight revelations, to divine strategies and spiritual books written in heaven. This book is not merely a recounting of events; it is an invitation to witness the boundless possibilities when faith intersects with divine strategy. The speaker challenges readers to embrace their potential for authorship, not for vanity, but as vessels for God's voice, urging us to look beyond our names and see ourselves as children of God, tasked with promoting the King above all. "Edges of Eternity" is a clarion call to break free from self-imposed limits, to see beyond the physical into the spiritual realm, where signs, wonders, and miracles are not just possible but are a testament to God's presence and power. From the miraculous provision of manna to the unseen wonders that await in personal and communal revival, the speaker assures us that we are on the cusp of something truly divine. This book is a testament to the belief that the supernatural is accessible, urging readers to press into God, expect the unexpected, and prepare for a revival that transcends time and place. Whether in moments of laughter or in the pursuit of divine strategy, "Edges of Eternity" invites you to explore the verge of God's promises, encouraging you to live in anticipation of His awesome deeds.

His book is a must for all those who wish to know how to keep out of the lake of fire and spend an eternity of bliss, light, and glory with Christ. The author declares clearly the basic doctrines of the Gospel to a generation wandering in theological confusion. He reaches out to the millions of nominal Christians and to the more than four billion outside of Christianity, showing them the way to God. This is a Christ-centered book. It reveals that the key to heaven is a genuine, honest, and heartfelt relationship with the blessed Person of Jesus Christ - the only One who can save and the only way to God. Dr. Maurice Bassali is a retired physician who lives with his wife Margaret in Manalapan, Florida. He belongs to the assembly of Plymouth Brethren in nearby Lake Worth. Dr. Bassali is a devout Christian who loves the Lord and invests his time in searching the Holy Scriptures and writing Christian books and articles. Book excerpt: Safeguarding the distinction between God and world has always been a basic interest of negative theology. But sometimes it has overemphasized divine transcendence in a way that made it difficult to account for the sense of God's present activity and experienced actuality. Deconstructivist criticisms of the Western metaphysics of presence have made this even more difficult to conceive. On the other hand, there has been a widespread attempt in recent years to base all theology on (religious) experience; the Christian church celebrates God's presence in its central sacraments of baptism and Eucharist; and recent process thought has re-conceptualised God's presence in panentheistic terms. This is the background against which this book outlines a theology of the Christian sense of the presence of God. The first chapter traces the rise and fall of rational religion in Modernity and argues that we should replace philosophical theism not by a unspecified religious sense of the whole but by a specific sense of the presence of God. The second chapter analyses the notion of divine presence and outlines different ways of understanding the real presence of God. The third chapter discusses the problem of whether and how God's presence can be discerned - given the fact that there is no presence of God that is not tinged by God's absence. Chapter four distinguishes various modes of divine presence with their corresponding modes of (human) apprehension. Chapter five takes up the charge that presence is an impossibility in a critical discussion of the debate between Derrida and Marion about the (im)possibility of gift. Chapter six asks how God's presence is conceived and communicated, looking in particular to music as a means of representing and communicating the awareness of God's presence. The final chapter outlines how the sense of the presence of God can be presented and defended in a world of many religions and cultures with their often conflicting religious convictions and representations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "God is eternal" is a standard belief of all theistic religions. But what does it mean? If, on the one hand, "eternal" means timeless, how can God hear the prayers of the faithful at some point of time? And how can a timeless God act in order to answer the prayers? If God knows what I will do tomorrow from all eternity, how can I be free to choose what to do? If, on the other hand, "eternal" means everlasting, does that not jeopardize divine majesty? How can everlastingness be reconciled with the traditional doctrines of divine simplicity and perfection? An outstanding group of American, UK, German, Austrian, and Swiss philosophers and theologians discuss the problem of God's relation to time. Their contributions range from analyzing and defending classical conceptions of eternity (Boethius's and Aquinas's) to vindicating everlastingness accounts, and from the foreknowledge problem to Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity. This book tackles philosophical questions that are of utmost importance for Systematic Theology. Its highest aim is to deepen our understanding of religious faith by surveying its relations to one of the most fundamental aspects of reality: time.

Book excerpt: Neville returns eternity to the center of consideration by analyzing the obsessive culture that attempts to get along denying it; and he analyzes the nature of time's flow itself, the nature of divine eternity, and the subtle problems of personal immortality. He argues that time and eternity constitute one topic and that, therefore, time itself is beyond understanding, beyond personal grasp, and beyond civilized orientation without a proper comprehension of eternity.
