Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is moxibustion too difficult to apply, too risky or too smoky? Discover the effective new moxa method from Japan that gets rapid results - safely. Moxibustion is ancient. Even more ancient than needling. In modern acupuncture, however, it is often considered too time-consuming or difficult to master. And yet the classics say: for chronic conditions, moxa has no equal. Coming to the rescue of time-poor, present-day acupuncturists is the Ontake Method from Japan. This innovative technique uses a piece of bamboo filled with burning moxa wool to roll, tap and press on the acupuncture meridians using a metronome programmed to each meridian's frequency. The rhythmic application of heat, frequency and pressure triggers rapid shifts in your patients' body condition and mood but this method generates only a little smoke. In this book, you will learn: Dr Manaka's meridian frequencies and how to apply them Branch treatments for symptom relief Root treatments for whole-body regulation The integration of Dr Tan's holographic models with Ontake for the rapid relief of pain in the neck, back and joints Moxa in Motion presents a step-by-step guide to clinical practice utilising the Ontake Method. Easily integrated into any style of acupuncture, Shiatsu or Tuina, the Ontake Method will boost your results and build your practice. Oran Kivity is a veteran acupuncturist from the UK, living in Asia. He has dedicated countless hours of clinical observation and study to integrate the knowledge of contemporary Japanese masters. Through writing and teaching, he has ignited interest in Ontake, a remarkable new moxa tool from Japan, developing these dynamic new techniques further and compiling them into this practical handbook of moxibustion.

Book excerpt: Many students of Oriental Medicine begin their studies with a somewhat hazy relationship with the origins of the subject. It is often much later, when they begin to feel something is missing, that they at last begin to dig in and find the roots of this method that is at once therapy, art, and philosophy. In this book, you will be taken to the classical roots of this art to consider the foundational concepts and ideas afresh. Edward Obaidey is perhaps the perfect guide on this path dotted with what you may feel are familiar concepts, and language. He has an uncanny knack and light touch of opening up a perspective or idea long taken for granted and asking the reader to think anew.Edward provides just enough detail and information to kindle fresh interest and connections in the mind of the reader, without smothering this precious state of curiosity and creative spark. This is the hallmark of a good teacher, attested to by the many apprentices, students, readers and seminar attendees that Edward has enlightened and educated over the years. The essence that comes through in this text is an important reminder of the sense of perspective that, whilst so fundamental to the study and practice of Oriental Medicine, is often sadly lacking or lost in detail.

Book excerpt: The best way to learn the art of Oriental Medicine is by direct transmission in the clinic - seeing, feeling, sensing, and being part of the treatment process - through a relationship with someone familiar with the road you are on. A Long Road: An Acupuncture Travelogue provides snapshots of steps along the road by the author in his development over many years as a busy practitioner. The real sense of living, dynamic treatment is conveyed through the author's obvious dedication and delight in pursuing and transmitting understanding of this art. The more so by the inclusion of conversation transcripts between the author and his students through which the reader is offered the chance to benefit from a sense of the sensei/ deshi (student/ teacher) relationship. In-depth articles cover specific conditions, treatment concepts, diagnostic nuance, case histories and discussion on point meaning and use. The classical texts are explored with translation & commentary and brought to vibrant clinical relevance to the extent that the text could almost be viewed as a clinical work-book. To be consulted, for inspiration and guidance - and to be sweated over in study - but mostly (and importantly) in clinical practice. This text is recommended for practitioners of all 'styles' or 'methods' as a path away from the unfortunate tendency to intellectualize oriental medicine and thus trap it in the classroom or lecture theatre. The reader is offered a bridge between classical theory/ training, and the vibrant reality of the clinical practice of acupuncture, moxabustion and traditional massage.

In essence, the X-signal system defines qi, yin-yang, and the five phases as clinical events, rather than as abstract theories. The text gives Western readers the first complete description of this treatment system.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first complete English translation of Japanese acupuncture book, Shinkyu Gokuhi Sho with all the beautiful illustrations from the original text and Hyungsuk Choi's annotations. Shinkyu Gokuhi Sho was published in 1778 by a Japanese doctor, Kimura Taichu (木邨太仲). The author says that the acupuncture technique in this book is originated from Kim Duk-bang (金德邦). This technique had been passed down to the family of Tanaka Tomoyoshi (田中知新) secretly, and the author collected and edited the resources and published as a book. The techniques in the book became a foundation of Unkaishiryu, so this book has both historical and clinical value for acupuncture researches and practitioners.Regarding the title of this book, it was introduced to Europe in 1825 by Jean Baptiste Sarlandière under the French title, 'Traité inédit de l'acupuncture et du Moxa chez les Japonais' , which means 'The unpublished teaching of Japanese acupuncture and moxibustion' in English. Japanese 'Shinkyu Gokuhi Sho' literally means 'The ultimate secret book of acupuncture and moxibustion'. In English, it was introduced as 'Absolute secrets of Acupuncture and moxibustion' in NAJOM (2001, vol 8, No.21) and also as 'Outline of the Deepest Secrets of Acupuncture and moxibustion' by Wolfgang Michel in his article,' Japanese Acupuncture and Moxibustion in Europe from the 16th to 18th Centuries'.

Book excerpt: Increasingly popular in Japan, this form of practice focuses on abdominal diagnostic features that reflect disturbances in the internal pathways of the channels and collaterals and the internal qi flow of the entire body. Here Kobayashi (acupuncture, Kanto Acupuncture College), a leading practitioner and academic, draws from his decades of study of classical writings on the vital energy system to develop a unique method of root treatment, condensing those fragments of classical information into their intrinsic core. He writes for clinicians and students as he describes the theory behind treatment, the concept of qi in acupuncture core therapy, disease and the practice's three etiologies, evaluation of the patient, and fundamental and supplemental treatment. He provides comprehensive coverage of clinical applications, including the locations of the manifestations of disease (including psychiatric disease and pediatric conditions), and offers eight impressive case studies and a range of methodology in a series of appendices.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Single Point Acupuncture and Moxibustion for 100 Diseases is a comprehensive yet easy-to-follow guide to the clinical application of single point acupuncture and moxibustion therapy, with a special emphasis on methods and needle techniques. Single point acupuncture and moxibustion therapy differs from other forms of acupuncture in that only one point is selected during each session. The single point technique is noted for its quick therapeutic response and exceptional results, despite using far fewer points than traditional acupuncture therapy. It is a simple technique for practitioners to master, and patients are quick to extol the virtues of the single-point approach. Author Dr. Decheng Chen describes in detail how to treat one hundred of the most common clinical ailments, including headaches, neck pain, hypertension, and even the common cold. Dr. Chen uses both Western and traditional Chinese medical theory to describe his treatment methods. Each section consists of an introduction to the disease, a detailed explanation of the needle technique used, a case study of the treatment, and a discussion. With its easy-to-use format and step-by-step instructions, Single Point Acupuncture and Moxibustion for 100 Diseases is the definitive single point acupuncture guide for teachers, students, and acupuncture practitioners alike.
