Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Poultry and Egg Situation, Vol. 170: March 17, 1954 Supplementing this former report, until May 1962 there was a weekly report of poultry receipts at midwestern receiving plants. This report separated young and old 0 ickens, and reported in terms of average weekly receipts per plant, covering 2cu-odd plants. These figures likewise were so unchanging and so consistent in their indications of seasonality that they too continue to be indicative of present conditions. Table 12 ih eludes a summary of the most recent data available from that source. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Average egg prices received by farmers were cents per dozen in mid-april, about 27 percent above the year before, and 11 percent above the month before. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Poultry and Egg Situation, Vol. 184: July 18, 1956 Production of broilers and of turkeys in 1956 will be record large, exceeding 1955 by perhaps 20 and 15 percent. Egg production also is likely to set a new record, rising perhaps 2 percent or more above the 1955 high. Egg production to July 1 was less than 1 percent ahead of last year, but pro duction in the rest of the year will reflect the year-to-year upward trend in fall rate of lay and the increased number of pullets following the larger re placement hatch this spring. Egg prices have declined seasonally since the beginning of 1956, and except for a short period after mid-june, remained above a year earlier. In 1955, prices had definitely begun to turn seasonally upward by mid-june. The prospect is for 1956 egg prices to rise seasonally but the peak may be earlier and lower than the U. S. Average of cents per dozen received by farmers in December, 1955. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Poultry and Egg Situation, Vol. 144: April 1950 Hatcheries are half-way through the 1950 season for producing baby chicks for laying flock replacement. However, it is still too early to estimate the number of chickens to be raised in 1950. In past years early-season chick hatchings and young chicken holdings on farms have proven.to be unsatisfactory for estimating numbers to be raised during the entire season. (see table So far, reports do not bear out farmers' intentions (as of February) to buy 12 percent fewer chicks than a year ago. January through April hatchery volume will be very near to last year's; and from.indications on April 1, 1950, numbers of chicks and young chickens on farms were 8 percent larger than last year. However, the April hatchery report indicated 10 percent fewer eggs in incubators on April 1 this year compared with last and a substantial drop in May orders fram l9h9. Thus it is quite possible that expectations of a small late season hatch will materialize and.that the actual numbers of chicks sold may more closely approximate the February intentions than has been so far indicated. However, production in August of 1948 was 8 percenthigher, and in September 1948, 5 percent above the corresponding months of last year. For 1948 as a whole, production of eggs on farms is likely to be slightly under 1947. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
