Book Synopsis The Plaston Concept by : Isao Tanaka
Download or read book The Plaston Concept written by Isao Tanaka and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book presents the novel concept of plaston, which accounts for the high ductility or large plastic deformation of emerging high-performance structural materials, including bulk nanostructured metals, hetero-nanostructured materials, metallic glasses, intermetallics, and ceramics. The book describes simulation results of the collective atomic motion associated with plaston, by computational tools such as first-principle methods with predictive performance and large-scale atom-dynamics calculations. Multi-scale analyses with state-of-the art analytical tools nano/micro pillar deformation and nano-indentation experiments are also described. Finally, through collaborative efforts of experimental and computational work, examples of rational design and development of new structural materials are given, based on accurate understanding of deformation and fracture phenomena. This publication provides a valuable contribution to the field of structural materials research.
Book Synopsis Masterpieces of Swiss Entrepreneurship by : Jean-Pierre Jeannet
Download or read book Masterpieces of Swiss Entrepreneurship written by Jean-Pierre Jeannet and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-04-21 with total page 579 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book focuses on Switzerland-based medium-sized companies with a longstanding export tradition and a proven dominance in global niche markets. Based upon in-depth documentation and analysis of 36 Swiss companies over their entire history, an expert team of authors presents several parallels in the pathways and success factors which allowed these firms to become dominant and operate from a high-cost location such as Switzerland. The book enhances these insights by providing detailed company profiles documenting the company history, development, and how their relevant global niche positions were reached. Readers will benefit from these profiles as they compile a diverse selection of industries, mainly active within the B2B sector, with mostly mature companies (60 years to older than 100 years since founding) and different types of ownership structures including family firms. ‘Masterpieces of Swiss Entrepreneurship’ brings unique learning opportunities to owners and leaders of SMEs in Switzerland and elsewhere. Findings are based on detailed bottom-up research of 36 companies -- without any preconceived notions. The book is both conceptual and practical. It fosters understanding for different choices in development pathways and management practices. Matti Alahuhta, Chairman DevCo Partners, ex-CEO Kone, Board member of several global listed companies, Helsinki, Finland Start-up entrepreneurs need proven models from industry which demonstrate the various paths to success. “Masterpieces of Swiss Entrepreneurship” provides deep insights highlighting these models and the important trade-offs entrepreneurial teams must consider when choosing the path of high growth or of maximum control, as they are often mutually exclusive. Book Synopsis Field Theory of Multiscale Plasticity by : Tadashi Hasebe
Download or read book Field Theory of Multiscale Plasticity written by Tadashi Hasebe and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2023-05-31 with total page 861 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique book provides a concise and systematic treatment of foundational material on dislocations and metallurgy and an up-to-date discussion of multiscale modeling of materials, which ultimately leads to the field theory of multiscale plasticity (FTMP). Unlike conventional continuum models, this approach addresses the evolving inhomogeneities induced by deformation, typically as dislocation substructures like dislocation cells, as well as their interplay at more than one scale. This is an impressively visual text with many and varied examples and viewgraphs. In particular, the book presents a feasible constitutive model applicable to crystal plasticity-based finite element method (FEM) simulations. It will be an invaluable resource, accessible to undergraduate and graduate students as well as researchers in mechanical engineering, solid mechanics, applied physics, mathematics, materials science, and technology.

Book Synopsis Dynamic Processes in Solids by : James E. House
Download or read book Dynamic Processes in Solids written by James E. House and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2023-05-26 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results obtained from kinetic studies on reactions in solids often depend on numerous factors. Therefore, it is important for researchers to understand how both chemical factors related to composition and procedural choices may influence outcomes. Dynamic Processes in Solids provides an authoritative overview of reactions in solids and helps readers interpret the results obtained from kinetic studies. In chapters written by active researchers, the reader will learn about choosing appropriate experimental techniques and their limitations for studying various types of reactions. Beginning with an introduction to numerous aspects of rate processes in solids and experimental techniques, information is provided on rate laws, factors affecting rates, diffusion, and sintering. Subsequent chapters deal with electrical conductivity in dispersed phase polymers, thermochemical reactions for producing solid materials, reactions in coordination compounds, dynamic observations on plastic deformation, light driven phenomena in quantum materials, decomposition of perovskite photovoltaic compounds, and reaction of oxygen radicals with surfaces. This book is a practical introduction to the field for chemists and researchers whose work is directly related to dynamic changes in solids, and additionally for those in related fields whose work would be enhanced by an understanding of these types of rate processes. Presents useful discussions of the applications of several experimental techniques Describes approaches for synthesis of solid materials by thermochemical reactions Presents theoretical interpretation structural dynamics and processes at the molecular level in solids Provides information on the relationships between performance and rate processes in several types of materials related to electronic behavior

Book Synopsis How the SELF Controls Its BRAIN by : John C. Eccles
Download or read book How the SELF Controls Its BRAIN written by John C. Eccles and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book the author has collected a number of his important works and added an extensive commentary relating his ideas to those of other prominentnames in the consciousness debate. The view presented here is that of a convinced dualist who challenges in a lively and humorous way the prevailing materialist "doctrines" of many recent works. Also included is a new attempt to explain mind-brain interaction via a quantum process affecting the release of neurotransmitters. John Eccles received a knighthood in 1958 and was awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine/Physiology in 1963. He has numerous other awards honouring his major contributions to neurophysiology.
Book Synopsis Classical And Quantum Dynamics In Condensed Phase Simulations: Proceedings Of The International School Of Physics by : Bruce J Berne
Download or read book Classical And Quantum Dynamics In Condensed Phase Simulations: Proceedings Of The International School Of Physics written by Bruce J Berne and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1998-06-17 with total page 881 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The school held at Villa Marigola, Lerici, Italy, in July 1997 was very much an educational experiment aimed not just at teaching a new generation of students the latest developments in computer simulation methods and theory, but also at bringing together researchers from the condensed matter computer simulation community, the biophysical chemistry community and the quantum dynamics community to confront the shared problem: the development of methods to treat the dynamics of quantum condensed phase systems. This volume collects the lectures delivered there. Due to the focus of the school, the contributions divide along natural lines into two broad groups: (1) the most sophisticated forms of the art of computer simulation, including biased phase space sampling schemes, methods which address the multiplicity of time scales in condensed phase problems, and static equilibrium methods for treating quantum systems; (2) the contributions on quantum dynamics, including methods for mixing quantum and classical dynamics in condensed phase simulations and methods capable of treating all degrees of freedom quantum-mechanically.
