This book was released on 2011 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Faculty involved in pre-service teacher education often debate whether individual characteristics can predict effective teachers. Research is inconclusive with respect to the factors being capable of predicting effective teaching. This paper reports the results of a longitudinal study that identified self-reported characteristics of pre-service teachers during their semester of student teaching and their teacher effectiveness, as rated by their building principals after becoming employed as a teacher. Teacher scores on each of the 16 primary factors measured on the 16PF (personal factor) personality scale were regressed on their principals' effectiveness ratings. Stepwise multiple regression analysis generated a model that explained 17.0% of the variance in principal ratings of effectiveness and the model included four factors from the 16PF questionnaire as significant predictors of principals' success ratings. Those factors were: (1) Factor Q3, Perfectionism; (2) Factor Q4, Tension; (3) Factor N, Privateness; and (4) Factor G, Rule-consciousness. Teacher Success Rubric is appended. (Contains 3 tables.).

Book excerpt: The question of what makes a good teacher has been asked by practitioners, policymakers, and researchers. Teachers are important drivers of student success in the immediate term, such as academic success. Nowadays, the education process is influenced by various factors which can all have a strong effect on the quality of teaching and learning. Having the intention to create high-quality teaching and learning, it is very important to clearly determine what those factors are, and what kind of effect they have on the education process. Different teacher characteristics and competencies have been distinguished in the literature as being relevant predictors of their instructional quality. Even though educational psychology has emphasized the significance of the personality role in the education process, the empirical evidence on the relationship between teacher characteristics and instructional quality is not yet conclusive. Certainly, there is much more to find out.
Book Synopsis An Exploration of the Instructional Strategies and Personality Traits Utilized by Highly Effective and Successful Teachers by : Brent Kinsey
Download or read book An Exploration of the Instructional Strategies and Personality Traits Utilized by Highly Effective and Successful Teachers written by Brent Kinsey and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this qualitative case study was to investigate the instructional methods and personality traits of highly effective and successful teachers. Three research questions guided this study: How do highly effective teachers recognized as Teacher of the Year candidates define highly effective teaching? What are the instructional methods used by highly effective teachers? And what are the personality traits exhibited by highly effective teachers? Five highly successful teachers, chosen by their recognition as teachers who were candidates for the Indiana Teacher of the Year award, were selected for this study. Once the selection of the five candidates was completed based on geographical region, their placement in elementary school, gender, and school diversity, visits were completed at the sites of each study participant’s school. Classroom observations were completed with field notes taken and interviews conducted on site. The study generated multiple personality traits and instructional methods that were prominent among the five participants. Four common themes emerged from the field notes, observations, interviews, and confirmation from the five participants. The themes include: 1. Highly successful teachers are decidedly interactive with all of their students, are consciously aware of the levels of engagement of their students and are ensuring that all students feel they have an equal voice in the classroom. 2. Highly successful teachers are competitive leaders who are assiduous workers that view their profession as an extension of their personal self, willing to go beyond what is considered normal for educators to best reach and teach their students. 3. Highly successful teachers are compassionate individuals who understand the cultural diversity of the students and view their classrooms as a community that communicates and interacts in an organized and familial manner. 4. Highly successful teachers are confident in and understand their importance and value to the learning and developmental growth of each student, often drawing from familial or personal experiences in the profession. This study adds to the existing body of research by providing integral components of educating students in a classroom that is consistently evolving in very diverse school communities.

Book excerpt: American science education is in trouble. As the United States continues to lag behind other nations in science achievement, the question is asked: how can we better get our students excited and inspired by science? This is the science teacher’s duty. The irony of the education profession is that some of the most important aspects of it are the hardest to measure and replicate. The things that matter most can be the hardest to quantify. Some teachers can know the different learning styles, intelligences, and brain preferences of their students. They can know best practices of how to deliver instruction. They can do all these things and more, but still not convey imagination and passion for science to their students. But some science teachers do inspire. These special teachers seem to possess something the others don’t, but what is it? Exceptional science teachers make us feel better about ourselves through their teaching of science, and bring us to a higher quality of life as a result, while some science teachers can be the leading researchers in their fields, yet leave us flat. What is the recipe for this unique, special teacher? And why is it so hard to explain and describe? The objective of this book is to uncover these aspects of teaching that are so hard to measure and quantify. This is achieved through interviewing people who are either current or retired teachers, or who were positively affected by a teacher, and also through case studies of exceptional teachers in order to quantify and explain the exact traits and personality quirks of these exceptional people. The contribution to the field of education this book hopes to achieve is the examination of the question; why do some teachers have that “X” factor, what, exactly is it, and how can we all have it?
