Book excerpt: I was hanging out with Elizabeth when I saw the boy again. Not just a boy, but that boy, the one you sort-of notice, but only to think, hey, wasn't he here yesterday? He glided by Elizabeth's hedge on his bike once too often, giving that sliding sideways glance he hoped (I expect) looked casual, disinterested and, oh, there's that chick again, hanging out with her big sister...or is it her auntie? Too old to be a friend. Elizabeth is my great-great-great-great-great granny, for your information, Bike Boy, I thought-spoke to him on the fourth bypass of the week. He toed his pedal down and skimmed away before getting into some serious calf-work as he headed up the hill towards Caroline Court. Cat Mahal has an ordinary life in the suburbs. She is also an ethical witch

Book Synopsis The Religion of the Peacock Angel by : Garnik S. Asatrian
Download or read book The Religion of the Peacock Angel written by Garnik S. Asatrian and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-09-03 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based in Iraq, Syria and Turkey, the Yezidi people claim their religion - a unique combination of Christian, Islamic, and historical faiths - to be the oldest in the world. Yezidi identity centres on their religion, Sharfadin, which has evolved into a highly complex pantheon of one God with many incarnations, the chief of whom is Melek Taus, the Peacock Angel. The Yezidi faith can be traced to a range of pre-Islamic belief systems, such as Sufism, some extreme Shi'ite sects, Gnosticism and other traditions surviving from the ancient world. This particular formulation has served to unify Yezidi religious identity and ethnicity. Based on extensive fieldwork, 'The Religion of the Peacock Angel' presents the first detailed examination of the Yezidi pantheon. The idea of one God and his chief incarnations is first analysed, then the various 'deity figures,' saints, holy patrons and divinized personalities in the Yezidi belief system are considered in the context of related religious traditions. The study determines the place of all these characters in the system of the Yezidi faith, defining their main functions, features, and genealogies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this text is to draw an analogy between the experiences of the peacock in the natural order and the peak experiences in the human condition. The peacock is capable of personifying the male and female consciousness in humans. Peak experiences are part of everyday life. The task is to assimilate human experience into the male (animus) and female (anima)parts of our consciousness. These experiences allow one to illuminate and identify one's destiny path in terms of one's capabilities and gifts. A person's destiny path is a choice which is determined by one's awareness and acceptance of one's roll in the Divine array. By accepting one's role and place in the Divine array, a person is able to achieve his/her destiny and oneness with the universe.
