With one or two short intervals the office of Provost has been held in succession by five members of the family, the present occupant being John Guthrie, M.D., Dr. Guthrie's nephew. It is probable, but not certain, that Dr. Guthrie was a lineal descendant of the well-known Rev. William Guthrie, author of the "Trial of a Saving Interest in Christ," who was cousin of James Guthrie, the martyr.
