Book Synopsis Reaction of Chlorine Dioxide with Phenols: Formation of Alpha, Beta-epoxy Ketones from Mesitol and 2,6-xylenol by : Bengt O. Lindgren
Download or read book Reaction of Chlorine Dioxide with Phenols: Formation of Alpha, Beta-epoxy Ketones from Mesitol and 2,6-xylenol written by Bengt O. Lindgren and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When 2,6-xylenol is oxidised with chlorine dioxide in an aqueous solution the following compounds are the main products: 2,6-dimethyl-1,4-benzoquinone, an alpha, beta-epoxy ketone, and 4-chloro-2,6-dimethylphenol. If oxidised in carbon tetrachloride solution, the xylenol gives the Diels-Alder dimer of 6-chloro-2,6-dimethyl-cyclohexa-2,4-dien-1-one in a low yield. Mesitol yields by oxidation in aqueous solution an alpha, beta-epoxy ketone, a chlorination product of this epoxy ketone, and 2,4,6-trimethyl-p-quinol. (Author).

Book Synopsis Quality and Treatment of Drinking Water II by : Jiri Hrubec
Download or read book Quality and Treatment of Drinking Water II written by Jiri Hrubec and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-06-05 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drinking water quality is a vast and complex subject. In addition to the topics already addressed in Volume 5, part B of this Handbook in 1995, this new volume discusses in an authoritative way the current key issues of drinking water quality and its control: - Toxicity tests for assessing drinking water quality - Toxicological approaches for developing drinking water standards - Analysis of organic micropollutants - Algal toxins and human health - Quality changes due to application of ozone and chlorine dioxide. The articles are written by leading experts and present the state of the art of drinking water research. This volume will therefore be a valuable source not only for scientists and engineers, but also for decision-makers in government, environmental control and industry.

Book Synopsis Flotation Technology by : Lawrence K. Wang
Download or read book Flotation Technology written by Lawrence K. Wang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-06-09 with total page 694 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The past 30 years have seen the emergence of a growing desire worldwide that positive actions be taken to restore and protect the environment from the degrading effects of all forms of pollution – air, water, soil, and noise. Since pollution is a direct or indirect consequence of waste, the seemingly idealistic demand for “zero discharge” can be construed as an unreal- tic demand for zero waste. However, as long as waste continues to exist, we can only attempt to abate the subsequent pollution by converting it to a less noxious form. Three major questions usually arise when a particular type of pollution has been identi?ed: (1) How serious is the pollution? (2) Is the technology to abate it available? and (3) Do the costs of abatement justify the degree of abatement achieved? This book is one of the volumes of the Handbook of Environmental Engineering series. The principal intention of this series is to help readers formulate answers to the last two questions above. The traditional approach of applying tried-and-true solutions to speci?c pollution p- blems has been a major contributing factor to the success of environmental engineering and has accounted in large measure for the establishment of a “methodology of pollution control. ” However, the realization of the ever-increasing complexity and interrelated nature of current environmental problems renders it imperative that intelligent planning of pollution abatement systems be undertaken.
