Book Synopsis The Nucleon Optical Model by : Peter Edward Hodgson
Download or read book The Nucleon Optical Model written by Peter Edward Hodgson and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nucleon optical model is widely used to calculate the elastic scattering cross-sections and polarisations for the interaction of neutrons and protons with atomic nuclei. The optical model potentials not only describe the scattering but also provide the wave functions needed to analyse a wide range of nuclear reactions. They also unify many aspects of nuclear reactions and nuclear structure. This book consists of a comprehensive introduction to the subject and a selection of papers by the author describing the optical model in detail. It contains full references to the original literature with many examples of the application of the model to the analysis of experimental data.

Book Synopsis Direct nuclear Reactions by : Norman Glendenning
Download or read book Direct nuclear Reactions written by Norman Glendenning and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Direct Nuclear Reactions deals with the theory of direct nuclear reactions, their microscopic aspects, and their effect on the motions of the individual nucleons. The principal results of the theory are described, with emphasis on the approximations involved to understand how well the theory can be expected to hold under specific experimental conditions. Applications to the analysis of experiments are also considered. This book consists of 19 chapters and begins by explaining the difference between direct and compound nuclear reactions. The reader is then introduced to the theory of plane waves, some results of scattering theory, and the phenomenological optical potential. The following chapters focus on form factors and their nuclear structure content; the basis of the optical potential as an effective interaction; reactions such as inelastic single- and two-nucleon transfer reactions; the effect of nuclear correlations; and the role of multiple-step reactions. The theory of inelastic scattering and the relationship between the effective and free interactions are also discussed, along with reactions between heavy ions and the polarizability of nuclear wave functions during a heavy-ion reaction. This monograph will be of interest to nuclear physicists.

Download or read book Nuclear Spectroscopy and Reactions 40-B written by Joseph Cerny and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 732 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nuclear Spectroscopy and Reactions, Part B covers information regarding the development of nuclear spectroscopy and its reactions, while emphasizing in-beam spectroscopy. This part specifically covers charged particle spectroscopy, spectroscopy from meson-induced reactions, and neutron spectroscopy. Organized into three sections, this book first discusses charged particle spectroscopy, which includes resonance reaction, reactions involving light ions, heavy-ion-induced reaction, and specialized reaction. The next section reviews spectroscopy from meson-induced reactions, including muonic and hadronic atoms; radiative capture; and charge exchange, scattering, and direct reactions. The final section discusses neutron spectroscopy, which includes advances in measurement of neutron spectra, charge exchange reactions, and polarization phenomena. This book is written to primarily benefit graduate students who are engaged in research that concerns nuclear spectroscopy.

Book Synopsis Scattering of Halo Nuclei by : Hasan Maridi
Download or read book Scattering of Halo Nuclei written by Hasan Maridi and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a M.Sc. thesis in theoretical nuclear physics. It is supervised by the professors of theoretical nuclear physics at faculty of Science, Cairo university: M. Y. M. Hassan, M. Y. H. Farag, and E. H. Esmael. The elastic scattering and breakup of neutron halo nuclei are studied in this work. The halo nuclei exhibit a strong cluster structure and anomalously large matter radii. Their separation energies of the halo neutrons are very low, so they can easily broken. These nuclei are so short lived that these cannot be used as targets. Instead, direct reactions can be done in inverse kinematics. The optical potential is constructed only from the framework of the folding model. It has few fitting parameters and give good agreement with the cross section data. Thus, it is not necessary to introduce a large number of arbitrary fitting parameters as done in the phenomenological potentials. Different densities for the halo nuclei are used and tested. The parameters of the density-dependent term are adjusted to fulfill saturation of nuclear matter. The breakup effect is studied by adding a dynamical polarization potential with different forms to the "bare" optical potential.
