My father was a coal miner and was killed in a roof rock fall in 1942. My mother remarried a few years later and had a total of nine children. My mother was a God loving woman and had a lot to do with the way I have lived my life and the man I am today. I have spent most of my working life as an Industrial Electrician but have done about every kind of work that the hands can do. I have been blessed by God to have been what they call a handyman. I started writing songs when I was about 73 years old and they just keep on coming to me after I bought a guitar seems I would hear the strings saying the words of the song. I got my first guitar when I was about fourteen years old but hadnt played for many years. I have been blessed by God all through my life with a family that I love with all my heart and they have loved and blessed me with so many grandchildren and now the family is growing with many great grandchildren I can hardly keep up with the number. It does the heart good to hear the word grandpa. So, to everyone who bought my first book and may buy or read this song book, love one another and this world will be a much better place. And put your trust in God to make it that way.

The tunes include a representative collection of what people are playing in the current old-time music scene. The author has indicated the source of the tune when known, plus notes on achieving the proper feel and playing style. Although a few of the arrangements are real finger-twisters, most are well within the reach of the intermediate dulcimer player. Some tunes are written for old-time “noter” style playing, some are best fretted with your fingers. All of the arrangements include suggested chords for guitar or other instruments. One or two include lyrics; most do not. Old-time tunes tend to be played in fiddle-friendly keys like D, G, A (major and minor), and C. Although you can play in most of those keys out of DAD tuning, the music really comes alive when you re-tune and let those drones ring. Tunings include DAA, DAD, DGD, AAA and more. The author includes notes on how to re-tune your dulcimer, as well as alternative tunings for some of the tunes. Their exploration, although successfully flourishing in the last two decades, has been considerably impeded by often unintelligible and obsolete vocabulary that was bound to the particular cultural and political context of the Tibetan Empire that collapsed in the 840s CE. The present publication aims at clarifying a part of this vocabulary by examining nearly 400 Old Tibetan compounds.
