CHARACTERS DELIA RALSTON at age 20 married James Ralston in 1840. After James died in an accident, she adopted Tina. CHARLOTTE LOVELL is Tina's actual mother but poses as her aunt. She loved Clem but he went away never to return or to know of Tina. EDITH WHARTON appears briefly in direct address in Prologues to Acts I and II. TINA RALSTON is adopted and is unaware that who she calls her aunt is actually her mother and who she knows as her adopted mother is actually her second cousin. Tina has only five lines.
