Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is summer in the south of France, and Pea and her little sister Margot spend their days running free, inventing games in the meadow behind their house. But Pea has worries beyond her five and a half years. Her father has died in an accident, and her mother has just lost a baby. Maman is English, already isolated in this small, foreign village, and in her compounded grief, she has retreated even further. Pea and Margot stay out of her way and try to make things better, but they can't make Maman happy again. When Pea befriends Claude, a man who seems to love the meadow as she does, she wonders if he could be a new papa. But why do the other villagers view Claude with suspicion, and what secrets does his large empty house hold? Beautifully written, haunting, and full of surprises, The Night Rainbow is a novel about innocence and experience, grief and compassion, and the blessings and perils of imagination.

Download or read book Rainbow's End written by Martha Grimes and published by Ballantine Books. This book was released on 1996-06-01 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Once again, Grimes hooks her readers with the engaging Jury and friends and with skillful tucking of hints into unexpected corners." --Publishers Weekly (starred review) When three women die of "natural causes" in London and the West Country, there appears to be no connection--or reason to suspect foul play. But Scotland Yard Superintendent Richard Jury has other ideas, and before long he's following his keen police instincts all the way to Santa Fe, New Mexico. There, in the company of a brooding thirteen-year-old girl and her pet coyote, he mingles with an odd assortment of characters and tangles with a twisted plot that stretches from England to the American Southwest. And while his good friend Melrose Plant pursues inquiries in London, Jury delves deeper into the more baffling elements of the case, discovering firsthand what the guide books don't tell you: that the Land of Enchantment is also a landscape ripe with tragedy, treachery, and murder. "RAINBOW'S END is itself a literary rainbow. It's the skillful blend of mystery and comedy and pathos, a Martha Grimes trademark, that makes this visit with Richard Jury and company so memorable and satisfying." --Mostly Murder

Book Synopsis The Tale of Rainbow’S End by : Margaret Evans
Download or read book The Tale of Rainbow’S End written by Margaret Evans and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-12-30 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This story is a childrens fantasy that originally came from a dream. It begins with a bedroom scene where Lucy awakens surrounded by a strange eerie light. She is whisked into the fantasy world in order to assist in a special task of making rainbows. The Rainbow maker is Soup, a strange little man who is dressed as an artist with oddly coloured hair, skin and clothes. He persuades Lucy that he needs her especially as his transport is the beautiful horse Joe - that once belonged to her. There are references here of Lucys tragic loss and the acknowledgment to the young reader of their own fears of losing loved ones. Throughout the journey, the friends experience a variety of problems but also wonderful times where magical things assist them. Although this story is a fantasy I believe it would appeal to readers age 6/7 to 12 years as the language is fairly advanced. It would also appeal to younger children if read by an adult. The full-page ink illustrations and a variety of smaller symbolic drawings are included throughout the text.

Book Synopsis The Rainbow Bridge by : Raymond L. Lee
Download or read book The Rainbow Bridge written by Raymond L. Lee and published by Penn State Press. This book was released on 2001 with total page 654 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Venerated as god and goddess, feared as demon and pestilence, trusted as battle omen, and used as a proving ground for optical theories, the rainbow's image is woven into the fabric of our past and present. From antiquity to the nineteenth century, the rainbow has played a vital role in both inspiring and testing new ideas about the physical world. Although scientists today understand the rainbow's underlying optics fairly well, its subtle variability in nature has yet to be fully explained. Throughout history the rainbow has been seen primarily as a symbol&—of peace, covenant, or divine sanction&—rather than as a natural phenomenon. Lee and Fraser discuss the role the rainbow has played in societies throughout the ages, contrasting its guises as a sign of optimism, bearer of Greek gods' messages of war and retribution, and a symbol of the Judeo-Christian bridge to the divine. The authors traverse the bridges between the rainbow's various roles as they explore its scientific, artistic, and folkloric visions. This unique book, exploring the rainbow from the perspectives of atmospheric optics, art history, color theory, and mythology, will inspire readers to gaze at the rainbow anew.
