Award winning author, Lenor Madruga Chappell, continues to move readers with her latest book, The Next Leg of My Journey. Her first book was One Step At A Time, a poignant autobiography of her struggle to walk again after losing her leg to cancer, In The Next Leg of My Journey, a sequel, Lenor engages the reader with the intimate and heart wrenching details of the painful demise of her marriage, admitting that "losing her husband was worse than losing her leg." Committed to enjoying life, no matter what it brings, this remarkable story of learning to love again is uplifting and achingly honest. If the first story is a victorious struggle to overcome cancer, then the second book focuses on the obstacles this unique woman faced trying to overcome the challenges of life alone. Forty years old, single and an amputee, fighting to rebuild her life and to secure her daughters' futures as well as her own, The Next Leg of My Journey is a story of unbelievable willpower and human triumph.

Book excerpt: As I write this (2013), it is about one and a half years since Fran died and I moved into my present apartment. My life appears to be settled into somewhat of a routine nature. Each morning when I awaken, I go through a mental exercise of reminding myself of activities or events for that particular day....if this is Tuesday, after breakfast, pick up the recyclables in Hampton Square ; if its Wednesday, is this the Wednesday I print the semi-monthly news bulletin, The Pioneer, if it’s Thursday, I better get my butt in gear and get ready to deliver meals on wheels and print out a joke to read to the Thursday night Pinochle group.... Each new day is obviously different from any previous days, but there is a certain repetitive nature to them all. During the course of my unique journey from infancy to my now twilight years, I witnessed and/or experienced a plethora of events. In the preceding pages, I have written about a scant few of them and I know I have not even come close to covering many of the things that happened in my life. They are the result of thoughts that came into mind as I was writing and followed no specific pattern other than a rudimentary outline of the flow of my life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is not just another autobiography. This is a life journey of an ordinary man. Every person is experiencing difficulties in their lives, but how much we are learning from those difficulties and obstacles that we find along the way is what the Author is trying to convey in these pages. The idea of the book is to select some episodes which moulded and shaped the Author to find the meaning in life and walk the path towards the inner freedom as an inspiration and guidance for all who have been awakened to the idea that there is something more than meets the eye. This is a spiritual book in a sense that we are not just a bag of flash and bones and that every person has a spiritual life as well. There is an intelligence that guides and regulates our life. For a lack of better term we call it Spirit, or God. And the aim is to connect to that Being or Intelligence and to achieve the full potential that we are all entitled to as human beings. We have to live our life so that we can, first and foremost, realise ourselves as human beings, and from there, we can contemplate our divine origin and eventually realise that we are divine beings temporarily clothed in human attire with the purpose of realising our soul`s position as the eternal servant in our loving relationship with the Divine.

Book excerpt: The Professional Reviewers Views on the 3-Day Journey: Blueink Review: "The aftermath of war is often measured in body counts or economic damage; however, one of war's most lasting impacts is the loss it imposed on children. Author Duk-Joong Won was just 12 years old when he was handed a small package and told to leave his mother behind, with assurance that they would be reunited in three days. He never saw her again. Three-day-Journey is a gripping memoir of grief, faith, family, and ultimately triumphant." KIRCUS REVIEW: "Arriving (at the USA) with $50 and limited command of the English language, he initially worked menial jobs, but eventually obtained a Ph.D. in economics. After decades as a successful businessman, he visited totalitarian North Korea in 1990; there, he learned that his mother and favorite sister were long dead, but managed to see his surviving siblings and say a final goodbye. Overtaken by depression back in the U.S., he changed career attending a seminary and becoming a pastor. Despite occasional language errors, this book provides a readable personal record of life in bygone Korea. It also effectively tells the story of an immigrant struggling and succeeding in the United States." Rev. Walter Chun, Ph.D.: "Three-Day-Journey is a success story motivated by a heartfelt memory of his mother, as well as a fruitful achievement of hard work in the midst of distress. All the more, this is our story, of our parents motivating us." Rev. Bill Youngblood: "What a compelling and inspiring journey! . . . . . . . . To read how you escaped the war, survived in the long journey to safety in South Korea, made it to America, managed to get a first rate education, reconnected with Insook, start and run a company, and go back home to see your family in the North and South, and finished your career as an ordained United Methodist Pastor with wonderful effectiveness in each church that you served is truly an inspiration. . . . ."

Book excerpt: My Life by Me and My Poetry In-Between By: Marty Slain (Mykos) My life’s had a lot of laughter and love But also tears of frustration and sorrow, A few regrets and way too many whys But I still look forward to my tomorrow In June 2015, at the age of 60, Marty Slain (Mykos) decided to start this book. Her life has been full of ups and downs, challenges faced and overcome, love lost and found, and friends and family encouraged her to share her story. In poetry and prose, Marty spins her unique tale and hopes to encourage others with her positive spirit. Part of a large family, Marty grew up surrounded by faith and love. At eighteen, she discovered she was pregnant and married the baby’s father. The young family tried to make it work. But when her husband became abusive, Marty left him. She was repeatedly unlucky in love, but found happiness in her three children and career in construction and restoration. She and her siblings supported each other through divorces and deaths. Marty had fun in the good times – plenty of dancing, rich friendships, and a wonderful man. When darkness came, however, she had to fight to keep the light in her life. Watching her children face their own struggles in relationships and parenting brought both joy and heartache. In the end, it’s been a wonderful journey of family and friends who have inspired and challenged her. Poems celebrate the love she has lived as well as soberly reflecting the dark times in her life. Sensitive and spirited, Marty’s words will comfort and encourage you. Laughter is important, family is everything, and faith will always bring you through.

Book excerpt: Born to the middle class, in Middle America, in the middle of the twentieth century, to middle-of-the-road republicans, Jashanananda was a fearful child. He was reluctant to make an appearance in this world and then slow to blossom. It was not until he found himself studying psychology in the "free love" sixties that he began exploring new ideas and asking questions like "What is this world?" and "Who am I?" With the help of psychedelic drugs, Jashanananda turned away from academia and began an inner quest to find what's real. This journey led him to Eastern religions and down the path of yoga, which carried him through a twenty-year marriage, a job in corporate America, and raising three children in the mountains of Colorado. Then, one day, in the midst of his middleclass suburban life, he had an awakening and everything changed. He was back on his journey in search of his true self, the source of love, and the true nature of existence. This is his story.

Book excerpt: The Ocean is calling me. This is my Journey. With these words, in the spring of 2010, Susan Marie Conrad scaled her world down to an 18-foot sea kayak and launched a solo journey that took her north to Alaska. With no sense of where she belonged in space and unreconciled feelings of a painful childhood following her, she decided that instead of running away, she would run toward her dreams. Her adventure took her along the western coast of North America, through the Inside Passage—a 1,200-mile ribbon of water—in a journey of the sea and soul. The expedition took her deep within herself, humbling her, healing her, helping her to discover the depths of her own strength and courage. On her way from Anacortes, Washington, to Juneau, Alaska, she grappled with fear and exhaustion, forged friendships with quirky people in the strangest places, endured perilous weather and angry seas, and pretended not to be intimidated by 700-pound grizzly bears and 40-ton whales. She lived her dream.

Book excerpt: “This book demonstrates how to pray and what to say to transform your life from failure to blessing and turn fear into faith.” —Arielle Ford, author of The Soulmate Secret Prayer can point your life in the right direction—or the wrong one.Whatever you’ve got going on in your life is what you’ve been praying for—often unconsciously. If you want something different, you must pray a different prayer. This book will show you how to do just that. Everything you do is prayer. Many don’t realize it, but the decisions you make throughout the day, the attitudes you adopt, the conversations you have, the way you respond to other people, and the thoughts you think—even the food you choose to eat and the way you spend your money—are all prayers. We are constantly communing with the Divine, even in our most mundane activities. And our prayers are always answered in the affirmative: “Yes.” Whatever you’re thinking about (and therefore praying about) will manifest in your life. If you’re worrying, “I don’t have enough money,” the Universe will say ‘Yes, you don’t have enough money.’ If you’re constantly lamenting, “I don’t have a man in my life,” the Universe will respond, ‘Yes, you don’t have a man.’ If you frequently complain, “I’m fat,” the Universe will answer, ‘Yes, you’re fat.’ Your thoughts and words are prayers, and the Universe always gives you what you’re praying for. Your Life is Your Prayer will show you how to change your life by changing your prayer: Learn how to stop complaining Discover how to focus on what you do want, not what you don’t want Learn how to make your prayers positive and affirming—to get more of what you want in your life Discover how, by constantly choosing new thoughts and new conversations, you will literally create a new life for yourself

Book excerpt: Were you a child from a broken home? Have you been in difficult relationships or been abused? Do you struggle with addiction or ever been falsely accused and your life turned upside down? If so, this book will help you to discover ways to overcome these challenges and to look to the source of ultimate healing, God. For Matthew Harrison growing up in a strong religious family, the last thing he ever expected was to find out his parents were in a failing relationship and his life was about to change forever. Their divorce initiated a series of events that led to Matthew feeling unloved, unwanted, and unwilling to trust others. When his Mom remarried and his Stepfather broke the promises he made and then abused him, Matthew felt compelled to protect himself and his heart. The Path Less Chosen is Matthew’s true story and how his experiences led to choices he felt compelled to make because of unresolved hurt and pain. Growing up rarely feeling loved and accepted, he chose not to trust in order to protect his heart. That led to him living a double life that he hid from everyone. Eventually it came to light when he was accused of a crime he did not commit. Facing the prospect of prison and afraid his entire life was falling apart, he turned to God and had an experience that showed him there is a way to heal and change. The spiritual rebirth that took place led to Matthew taking responsibility for choices made, and he resolved to change the behaviors that destroyed his life. His story will inspire those who are struggling in their own lives to also seek God’s help in order to change and overcome challenges. It also demonstrates that every choice in life matters and leads to the path one takes. Whether you struggle with addiction, self-esteem, questions about God, or any other problem, his story shows the way to overcome these challenges and how to find answers. He learned with God’s help, nothing is impossible—even in a prison environment.

Book excerpt: We all make important, and crucial decisions at some point in life. Some decisions can truly be life changing. A month after I turned sixteen years old, I was given the opportunity to leave my country, and go north in the continent to the great United States of America. It was not an easy thing to do by any means, neither was it to decide over. After seeking God’s answer in prayer for a few days, I decided to leave my known life behind to venture into the unknown, trusting in God alone to make it safe to my destination. As I made the decision to leave my country, that also included leaving behind the most beautiful girl I had known. I was risking my life in many ways trying to reach the “Land of the Free, the Home of the Brave” with only one purpose in my heart. I wanted nothing more than to become a successful man in order to have something to offer to the girl I considered to be the love of my life. This was my one, and only reason for leaving my country. However, as the day for my departure approached, the strange feeling that I was going to end up with a broken heart at the end of it all became very overwhelming each day, and even more so during the entire journey. Although I hoped that was not going to be the case, I wanted God’s will to be done above all else. I believed that God had a reason for taking me away from her, my country, my friends and family at the time He did. If He did not want me to go to America the way I did, He simply would have said so when I asked if He wanted me to go. It took twenty-five days from the day I left my home in El Salvador until the day I arrived at my new home in Orange County, California. There were a number of dangers that I faced during a three week period, going across four different countries, traveling for more than three thousand miles. While my faith was tested in different ways each day, my mind, and my body were also put to the test in more ways than I expected. It all began on the eleventh day of February in the year two thousand and two. A group of fifteen individuals full of hope, and dreams of a better future decided to begin a journey that would forever change their lives. Although unique, my story is not the only one for there are millions more that have come before, and after me. This, however, is the story of my Journey to America.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Journey of the Messiah—The Awakening is written from a first-person point of view, as if Jesus is telling His story. The life of the Son of God is told from before His incarnation in eternity, through His young life, and into His journey from the wilderness temptation to Galilee. The story holds closely to the biblical accounts recorded in the Bible for this thirty-year portion of His life. While little is recorded of the early years, much of the journey is left to our imagination. Such moments of His departure from Heaven, conception, and Awakening to His Messiahship are shared in this book. In these pages, the personal experiences of the Son of God, as the Son of Man, are explored and pondered. Come and take this journey in the sandals of Jesus the Messiah; experience His life, listen to His voice, and hear the beat of His heart from the glories of Heaven to the dusty roads of Earth.
