Book Synopsis The New World Government-Structure and Constitution by : Prof. Dr. D. Swaminadhan
Download or read book The New World Government-Structure and Constitution written by Prof. Dr. D. Swaminadhan and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2019-03-24 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two issues are bothering the humanity at present. Firstly, the contemporary national and international scenarios in socioeconomic, political, ethnic, and cultural domains are throwing up many issues, problems, and challenges relating to development, environment, human rights, human security, communal harmony, peaceful coexistence among nations, and world peace and security. Secondly, existing global institutions are proving to be wanting in their structures and authorities in solving these problems. Alternatively, a new global independent organization with enforcing authority is needed to act upon and solve these issues. The need for replacement of UNO seems to be justified because of failure to solve global problems. The nineteenth and twentieth centuries witnessed revivals of proposals for world government that were fueled by positive developments, such as technological progress in travel and communications that enabled rapid economic globalization as well as negative developments such as the devastating impact of wars fought with modern technology. The author's approach of the formation of the world parliament is through proportional representation of nation's parliaments, thus avoids direct election process for its formation. All the nations and their people's representatives are involved in the formation of the World Parliament and the world government. Based on this line of thinking, the structure for a new federal world government and the new federal world constitution are presented in this book.

Book excerpt: "Don't love anything overmuch in the backcountry, for the land is a jealous mistress, and she be taking it away." Indentured servants do not fare well in the New World of 1748. Skinny, shivering, and lame, Julian fears for his prospects as he is inspected by buyers on the transport ship docked in Philadelphia. When his bond is purchased by the fur trader and former pirate, Bartholomew Bragg, his forebodings appear well-founded. Julian grows into manhood in a violent world where Indian nations struggle to survive war, famine, and disease; settlers stake their lives and meager resources on disputed territory; traders dispense gunpowder, scalping knives, and rum; and bands of renegades murder and thieve free from lawful constraint. In his travels into the Ohio country and his captivity by the Lenape, Julian learns the harsh realities of life and love on the frontier. In the end, surrounded by enemies and desperate to protect the woman he loves, the jealous land demands its sacrifice.

Download or read book Bedlam in the New World written by Christina Ramos and published by UNC Press Books. This book was released on 2021-12-20 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A rebellious Indian proclaiming noble ancestry and entitlement, a military lieutenant foreshadowing the coming of revolution, a blasphemous Creole embroiderer in possession of a bundle of sketches brimming with pornography. All shared one thing in common. During the late eighteenth century, they were deemed to be mad and forcefully admitted to the Hospital de San Hipolito in Mexico City, the first hospital of the New World to specialize in the care and custody of the mentally disturbed. Christina Ramos reconstructs the history of this overlooked colonial hospital from its origins in 1567 to its transformation in the eighteenth century, when it began to admit a growing number of patients transferred from the Inquisition and secular criminal courts. Drawing on the poignant voices of patients, doctors, friars, and inquisitors, Ramos treats San Hipolito as both a microcosm and a colonial laboratory of the Hispanic Enlightenment—a site where traditional Catholicism and rationalist models of madness mingled in surprising ways. She shows how the emerging ideals of order, utility, rationalism, and the public good came to reshape the institutional and medical management of madness. While the history of psychiatry's beginnings has often been told as seated in Europe, Ramos proposes an alternative history of madness's medicalization that centers colonial Mexico and places religious figures, including inquisitors, at the pioneering forefront.

This book was released on 1997-06-28 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What were the possibilities of prose as a literary medium in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries? And how did it operate in the literary and social world? The Project of Prose in Early Modern Europe and the New World brings together ten essays by leading scholars of the literatures of England, Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, and the colonial Americas, to answer these questions in wide-ranging ways. Several of the essays shed light on landmark prose works of the period; some discuss what lesser-known writings reveal about the medium; others move between the literary and the non-literary to reflect on the medium's intersections with history, fiction, subjectivity, the state, science and other aspects of social and cultural life. Overall, this 1997 collection will provoke an international reconsideration of the remarkable visibility and diversity of the medium of prose in the early modern period.
