This book is the result of forty-six photographers covering the seven regions of the Granite State, making thousands of images that create a twenty-first-century portrait of the people, places, culture, and events in New Hampshire. Book Synopsis A History of the Port Royal Bands by : John Brookfield
Download or read book A History of the Port Royal Bands written by John Brookfield and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Two of the finest Union Army bands to emerge during the American Civil War were the Third Regiment Band of the New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry, recruited from Fisherville (now Penacook), New Hampshire, and its successor, the 2nd Brigade Band, 10th Army Corps. Both bands were stationed near Charleston, South Carolina, and led by Gustavus W. Ingalls, a native of Bristol, New Hampshire. In later years, historians began referring to these bands as the Port Royal Bands because of their deployment to the area near Port Royal, a town not far from Charleston. This book examines the history of the two bands and the men who played in them and discusses the 2nd Brigade Band's contribution to music history—a collection of their music known as the Port Royal Band Books, highly prized by music historians and utilized by modern day Civil War reenactment bands."-- From back cover.

Download or read book Wolfeboro written by and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2001 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The town of Wolfeboro lies on the southeastern shore of Lake Winnipesaukee in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. Blessed with beautiful hills and vistas, the area was frequented by hunters and trappers but had no settlement until the eighteenth century, when British governors, including John Wentworth, urged coastal dwellers to move inland. In 1759, it was named Wolfeboro in honor of Battle of Quebec hero Gen. James Wolfe, and on August 1, 1770, King George II granted the township to the settlers. Wolfeboro unfolds a visual perspective of town life from the 1800s through the mid-1900s. Breathtaking views of the several lakes and mountains are combined with photographs of the people and the structures they built to further the town's growth and progress: the stunning homes, the museums, and the buildings in and around Wolfeboro. Seven scenes highlight the changes over a period of eighty years in the downtown area, which is known as the Bridge. Also depicted are the Carry at Wolfeboro Neck that was used long ago by Native Americans, the ice pylons, the shoe factory, Fisherville on the lake, the hotels in all their splendor, and the prominent Brewster Memorial Hall, which today serves as town hall.
