Book Synopsis The New Blue Fairy Book: Part 2: Fairy Tales 7 to 12 by : Laird Stevens
Download or read book The New Blue Fairy Book: Part 2: Fairy Tales 7 to 12 written by Laird Stevens and published by New Blue Fairy Book. This book was released on 2019-02-10 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains six of the eighteen fairy tales from Andrew Lang's Blue Fairy Book (1889). The stories have been rewritten sentence by sentence to make them accessible to 21st century American children. The 6 stories in this book include Little Red Riding Hood, The Master Maid, The Goose-girl, Prince Hyacinth and the Adorable Princess, The Girl with Saffron Hair, and Sleeping Beauty in the Wood. The great beauty of Andrew Lang's Blue Fairy Book, originally published in 1889, is that it brought together many different fairy tale traditions. There are stories written by Charles Perrault and Mme d'Aulnoy, collected by the Grimm brothers and Asbjornsen and Moe, and translated from the Arabian Nights. It is a very rich collection of fairy tales. However, the stories are written in a language that is outdated and in places inaccessible to modern American children (and even their parents). To remedy this problem, I have thoroughly edited half of the stories contained in Lang`s book, keeping the stories as intact as possible, while revising every sentence so the stories can once again be read with pleasure by children.

Book Synopsis Fairy Tales in Contemporary American Culture by : Kate Christine Moore Koppy
Download or read book Fairy Tales in Contemporary American Culture written by Kate Christine Moore Koppy and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2021-02-22 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the twenty-first century, American culture is experiencing a profound shift toward pluralism and secularization. In Fairy Tales in Contemporary American Culture: How We Hate to Love Them, Kate Koppy argues that the increasing popularity and presence of fairy tales within American culture is both indicative of and contributing to this shift. By analyzing contemporary fairy tale texts as both new versions in a particular tale type and as wholly new fairy-tale pastiches, Koppy shows that fairy tales have become a key part of American secular scripture, a corpus of shared stories that work to maintain a sense of community among diverse audiences in the United States, as much as biblical scripture and associated texts used to.

Book Synopsis Stories of Childhood by : Dean W. Duncan
Download or read book Stories of Childhood written by Dean W. Duncan and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2015-10-29 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study questions the widely held perception that books, as an artistic medium, are superior to and more respectable than film or television, sometimes considered frivolous and pernicious. Criticism of both the big and small screens often obscures their signal accomplishments and the entertainment and insight they provide. The author analyzes our distaste for these media--and the romanticizing of the printed word that accompanies it--and argues that books and films are in fact quite complementary. A broad survey of film and TV offerings explores what enacted narratives have taught us about the nature of childhood.
