Book Synopsis The American Film Institute Catalog of Motion Pictures Produced in the United States by : American Film Institute
Download or read book The American Film Institute Catalog of Motion Pictures Produced in the United States written by American Film Institute and published by New York : R. R. Bowker. This book was released on 1971 with total page 1136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The American Film Institute Catalog has won great praise for its comprehensiveness, reliability, and utility. These volumes are an essential purchase for every library, and individual researchers will also find them indispensable. This newest AFI volume contains over 4,300 entries for feature-length films produced in the United States in the 1940s. The decade was an important and transitional one for filmmakers. Societal changes from the war years were reflected in films, and in the late 1940s the rise of television, the Hollywood blacklist, and the breakup of studio-owned theater chains greatly affected the number and types of films produced. Among films newly viewed for the book are such well-known classics as Citizen Kane, The Best Years of Our Lives, and Casablanca, along with less heralded films such as Fighting Men of the Plains and The Strange Death of Adolf Hitler. Entries include complete cast and crew credits, extensive plot summaries, and notes and sources for further study. A large accompanying volume provides access to the films through nine separate indexes, including personal and corporate names, subjects, and genres.

Download or read book Black Silver written by Wayne Abrahamson and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2021-10-12 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Joseph Havok has no idea of the troubles he’ll face when he and his business partner decide to follow up on a rumor and go off in search of a lost cache of WWII silver near an island in the South China Sea. The two men travel by dive boat to Terumbu Island, unaware of the others they will soon encounter, including an American CIA station chief, an environmental-studies professor, and the captain of the professor’s research vessel. But Terumbu holds other secrets?, something far more dangerous and much more valuable than the island’s cache of old silver. Nicholai Anisimova, a former Russian army intelligence officer, is the leader of a group of dissatisfied comrades who threaten international order in their quest to transform Siberia into a new Russia. However, in order to purchase arms and equipment to begin their revolution and occupation of Siberia, the group will need money. To finance the recovery of resources from a sunken Japanese submarine, Anisimova secures the sponsorship of a Chinese industrialist who does not trust the Russians and decides to monitor the recovery himself. Havok and his partner soon find themselves involved in a conflict, refereed by an unknown, seldom-seen island hermit that escalates into a bitter struggle between survivors and pirates. What begins as a simple holiday for two men on a treasure hunt ends with a far-ranging battle that spills beyond the borders of the South China Sea, embroiling world leaders and placing the population of a nation at risk. “A thrilling and fun adventure built on excellent use of details sprinkled with comedic relief.” — Kendra Kennedy, Senior Archaeologist “Abrahamson’s excellent use of technical details trickled throughout the storyline provides for an authentic, and fast-paced, adventure at every turn of the page.” — Siska Williams, Senior Archaeologist
Book Synopsis An American Angler in Australia by : Zane Grey
Download or read book An American Angler in Australia written by Zane Grey and published by ETT Imprint. This book was released on 2021-10-01 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1936, the celebrated American author Zane Grey arrived in the sleepy New South Wales town of Bermagui, with the express reason of angling for the world's largest fish - Marlin, sharks and Swordfish. Here is his little classic of the chase. Four miles out I sighted a long sickle fin cutting through a swell. Did I yell, "Marlin!"? I certainly did. An instant later Peter sighted another farther out, and this tail fin belonged to a large fish. I could not tell whether or not it indicated a black marlin. It stood up three feet or more, and that much would make a tail spread of over six feet. These marlin were riding the swells and they were moving fast. The tails would come up out of the top of a swell and cut the water at more than a ten-knot speed. Then they would vanish. It is always necessary to run the boat in the right direction to head the fish off. The Avalon is fast - she can do eighteen knots when opened up - but we could not catch up with the big fellow.
