Book excerpt: For many years, revival has been a constant study for Brad Allen. He has been intrigued by the subject of real, authentic spiritual awakening. This book traces the faith and surrender of the Moravians from John Huss, to the Bohemian Brethren, to the Unitas Fratrum (Unity of the Brethren), to the Moravians. It is almost beyond belief to read of the night in 1727 when the Blessed Holy Spirit came in such great power on the little Moravian group in Herrnhut, Germany. But, then, to read of the exploding missionary enterprise of these simple believers is to set the book down and shake your head. In just a few years after the Moravian Pentecost in 1727, the Moravian Church in Herrnhut had sent out 300 missionaries around the world. If you want to read a story that will thrill you, convict you, and make you weep, read this book. BRAD ALLEN served for many years as a Baptist Pastor in Oklahoma. He is currently preaching internationally with Spiritual Awakening Ministries. He presently lives in Duncan, Oklahoma.

Book Synopsis A History of Moravian Missions by : J. E. Hutton
Download or read book A History of Moravian Missions written by J. E. Hutton and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-10-14 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an original reprinting of the official Moravian missions history with new maps detailing their numerous missionary journeys. This printing is the first of three volumes, and covers the initial years of Moravian missions. Get beyond the myth and pulpit folklore about the Moravians and see what God really did in using this group of believers to bring the Gospel to unreached people groups around the world in the 17th and 18th centuries. This band of refugees, displaced by Catholic persecutions in their own land, found safety with the benevolent Count Zinzendorf in Herrnhut, Germany. After the group experienced a true Holy Spirit revival, Count Zinzendorf found in them a zealous band of dedicated missionaries that carried the Gospel across the world while those back home maintained an unbroken, 24/7 prayer meeting for a hundred years. Just as remarkable is that the Moravians went out with no steady financial support. They were 'tentmakers' in most places they went to enable the rapid spread of workers without reliance on a large home financial support network. The Moravians are among the most significant, and least known, influencers of the modern missions movement that began in the 1700s and continues to today. John Wesley, founder of the Methodist church, witnessed the Moravians during his fateful voyage across the Atlantic, later attributing Moravian influence to his own conversion. William Carey, considered the father of modern missions and a pioneer in bringing the Gospel to India, attributed his initial impetus for missions after reading about the activity of the Moravians. How did God use a band of largely uneducated craftsman and farmers to reach the world? You should read this definitive history of the Moravians to find out!

Book Synopsis Handbook for the Christian Faith by : James M. Dawsey
Download or read book Handbook for the Christian Faith written by James M. Dawsey and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2023-08-15 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is religion disappearing from American life? Less than 50 percent of Americans now hold membership in any religious institution, and even fewer attend worship services. The decline in Christian churches is especially pronounced among the young and cuts across all denominations. But for Methodists and like-minded Protestants, concerns are deeper than shrinking denominational membership. Polls show disconcerting ignorance about religious and spiritual matters even among churchgoers. Our values as a society are in large measure molded by religion. What shape will Protestant Christianity take in the twenty-first century? And of Methodism? And beyond that, what kind of community will we be? Dawsey proposes returning to the roots of Christianity. And with anecdotes and stories and a sweeping grasp of church history, he examines those essential practices and beliefs necessary to revitalize American churches. Key, he argues, is rediscovering Christianity as a philosophy of living. John Wesley characterized the practice of religion as first, doing no harm; second, doing good; and third, keeping the ordinances of faith. Loving God and God’s creation—the doing of Christianity—marks the path for becoming the churches and individuals Christians were called to be.
